Which strategy is better?

#1 - The first tactic I learned for salary negotiation is to give them a # and act like you will walk away if it's not met. I forget the details, but something like even if they give you a lower #, you still stick to your #.

#2 - You can also give them a # and they may come back with a lower # and you can take it or leave it.

#3 - A new coach told me about giving a range. He said if you give them a #, they may flat out say no.

Can't they say no to any of these?

Giving a range is kinda dumb imo because they will just give you a number from the bottom of that range 🤷🏻‍♂️. Just give a number that you deem is fair and is market value. I like the first option the best.

Or give them a range where you would accept the bottom # 😁

I’ve hired so many people. When they give a range, I offer the number from the low range. Better to give a number you’ll stick to; and be prepared to walk away if they don’t meet that number.

I would think from what I've heard do your best to get them to say the range it pays before you say any number or range. In my experience, that's easier said than done though - recruiters know what they're doing!

like

I don't know that you necessarily need to stick with what you said in the beginning, but may be a harder sell after to try to negotiate higher than what you've previously said. If you have reasons and evidence to back it up though (market averages for role in industry/area, if there's more you know about the role now that could deserve higher salary than what you knew if it at the time of earlier discussion, etc), definitely worth a try.

I accepted a verbal offer on Fri. & written offer today, waiting on background check before giving notice. This afternoon my first choice reached out for a 2nd interview (after saying they’d be in touch either way by last Tues. and then hearing nothing). Would it be stupid and/or shady of me to take the interview? I’m excited about the one I accepted so wouldn’t want to withdraw without another offer, but this one would be a title promotion vs. lateral, & a $30K+ raise over the one I accepted.

Hey everyone! Wanted some advice - got an offer from a big ad agency for a Planning Manager role. Base salary is $90K (more than satisfactory, I have 2.5-3 years of total agency exp), but their PTO is severely lacking especially compared to my unlimited PTO benefit at my current job - they offered 10 actual PTO days, which are even prorated since it's mid-year. Assuming their PTO allowance is negotiable, any advice for how to handle the email follow-up to the written offer/how much to ask for?

I just received a job offer at a company I'm very interested in working for (yay!). Their salary offer, however, is at the bottom end of the range specified in the job ad. In my initial interview, I said that my salary expectations align with the range specified by the ad. So, my question is do I ask for more? Or do I just accept the offer? The company benefits are decent and I would get stock options, and it's fully remote - if that influences your answer.

Approached by 4x recruiters in the last 2 weeks.

Offers are:
180, same role, SME tech sector
200, same role, big MNC (300k employees)
225, senior role, NYC fintech startup
225, different role, Cybersec vendor

Currently 125 with pretty poor benies.

How can I leverage those offers into more comp where I’m at?

The idea was just floated to hire and train 2 analysts to work beneath me so that I can focus more on strategy, big picture and optimizations. Should I be asking for a raise and title change? I did get a pretty decent raise in February too.
