Which tier of Barbri bar prep should I get?

Highly recommend Themis if that’s still an option for you!

Whatever bar prep you get, I 100% recommended also getting Adaptibar. It’s all MBE questions with explanations. I was only confident going into the bar because of Adaptibar.

I knew going into the bar thet the state day was going to be my weak point. I ended up failing the state part by one point but I ended up passing the MBE section with 14 points more than needed so it brought me to an overall pass.

I also recommend Themis. I used Themis in 2017 when the PA and NJ bar (UBE) could not be taken at the same sitting. So I had to sit for the bar twice. The first time I used Themis for PA and loved it (as much as you can love a bar prep course) and didn’t feel as overwhelmed as my peers taking Barbri. I passed the PA bar on my first try. When I sat for NJ I was working full time and decided to try Barbri because my firm paid for it and I wanted to see the hype. I HATED it. I felt like they intentionally tried to overwhelm you and the material was sub par to Themis. Did I pass with Barbri? Yes, but the experience was not as positive. Themis is definitely the way to go. People take Barbri out of fear that if they don’t they will fail. However, people still fail with Barbri!

Whatever you choose good luck!

To add to this - I took the free Barbri course for the MPRE. I hated the setup and the way the course was laid out so also decided on Themis with the public interest discount for bar prep.

like

If you use Barbri call and ask for a discount, even if there isn’t one advertised. I got a great deal. Also, whatever course you use, go on Amazon and order the Emmanuel book of real previous mbe questions to supplement. Barbri questions are made up and are thus different in style, format, answer logic, etc.

Themis

I liked Themis until I got barbri for a second jurisdiction years later and felt their program was much better and worth the money if you can afford it. Critical Pass flash cards are nice. Check them out.

like

+1 for critical pass. I also used barbri and thought it was good.

I would recommend the middle tier. I didn’t see the need for the highest one. Also I agree with A1, get Adaptibar for your MBE questions.

Themis with public discount (super easy to get) and Adaptibar

As someone who used Barbi for California and Themis for NY, I can honestly say Themis was MUCH better.

like

Used Barbri. Wasn’t impressed. My friends using Themis paid half as much and had more essays graded. The MBE questions on Barbri are the same as the ones on adaptibar, so save the money and get Themis/adaptibar.

Thank you all for the feedback - I compared Themis and Barbri for the MPRE and liked Barbri more. Should I still go for Themis?

Does anyone see a shift in the industry wherein less emphasis is placed on billiable hours? I used to work at a firm where the average stint for an associate is 1 year or less. They lost clients as the clients got sick of seeing a new associate on their files every 6 months. The founding partner was near retirement so his goal was to maximize revenue rather than long term career development. I don’t see this as sustainable especially given millennial culture emphasis on work-life balance.
