Hey everyone,
Software engineer with 2.5 YOE here. I applied to the Software Engineer with Amazon Music position and got through the first automatic filter and now have to take the coding challenge, work simulation and work style survey. Does anyone have any tips?
Also, how is the WLB and the team at Amazon Music? It is remote since it’s a virtual position I am assuming.

Acceptance rate is high for women and minorities because fewer choose to apply so the pool is smaller (not to mention institutional forces generally make their lives harder). We live in a very segregated country where your income and your race (because whites prefer not to live close to blacks) limit where you live and that determines the quality of the schools your family has access to. Those institutional forces invisible to you and (most people who don't have to confront them) stack up against minorities.
But if you don't see the value in affirmative action at this point in your life, I know a post like this isn't going to change your mind. I just wanna say I'm glad you didn't get into a top ten school. Sounds like you've got an insular perspective. Instead of lying about your identity on your next application, maybe read a couple books and try to understand the advantages you've benefitted from and how you might be able to use them to help others once you do get your top 10 b school degree. Then you won't sound like such a d bag
@ PWC5 What exactly did I say that was hateful or ignorant? If some of my language choices came off that way that was not my intention. It feels like you're looking for an excuse to lash out and twisting my words. And by "feel good" I mostly mean help stupid white people (those racked with white guilt) feel like something substantial is being accomplished when really nothing could be farther from the truth. Clearly, many people on this thread can't even agree on what the actual problem is so it seems premature to start discussing solutions. However, one place to start is getting truly serious about K-12 education in underprivileged communities and potentially post secondary education (such as vocational training) to prepare people for a job where they can earn a living wage. Raising the minimum wage would also help.
You were doomed after you said "white". Affirmative action is a bitch these days. Apply next year as gay or trans and you might do better
White male here. Went to top business school. Better GMAT than OP but 2.8 undergrad at no name state school. Worked as an engineer at small company no one ever heard of. Comments: 1) stop whining. Figure out what went wrong and do better. If you're so awesome you'll figure it out. If not, you don't deserve it. 2) who cares if they were black or Indian. Did you only get one interview? Why couldn't you make friends with them anyway?
Ugh stop whining, being a white male works in your favor more often than it works against you. We all went to bschool with plenty of white males, so it's not just that. Whining won't get you anywhere.
Still better odds than an Asian male.
White men get so butt hurt when things go your way. Race was not the only factor for why you didn't get in. Maybe your recs, or your essay, or you attitude sucked. Suck it up and try again next year.
Serious question: is your name Joffrey Lannister?
White, 6'1, 7% body fat, 8 inch 🍆, Ivy League MBA. Oh, sorry, I thought we were bragging...
Lol hilarious when white people realize race IS always a factor, with any aspect of life. Honestly, your stats are great - you fucked up elsewhere. Own up to your shortcomings. Nonetheless, I'd like to extend to you a warm welcome to my world, where I'm reminded I'm black EVERY DAY✌🏿️ "rigged against white males" smh...
Damn this post is white af
Deloitte doesn't sponsor senior managers for their MBA. Assuming this is real, why on a late career application would you highlight your handyman experience?
Black male here. Complaining about being denied entry/access for being a white male when that's the proverbial meal ticket to success in America is simply just laughable.
You pulled the race card??? 😂 😂😂
You definitely fucked up somewhere. I got into m7 with much worse stats as a white male.
It's disheartening as I'm a father of 2 and every year gets harder. Well at least my children are half Latino.
@OP #sorrybro but BCG 1 laid it out right.
Have you ever thought that maybe it wasn't your race? White males make up a large percentage of people in those "top 10" companies you speak of. So ask yourself how you stacked up against those other white males that did get hired
How did I pull the race card? And naturally you assume that im a man. You're just a special prize aren't you. I can't believe you couldn't think of one thing to do with diversity other than your own skin tone. I would have talked about diversity of perspectives at the workplace, how important it is to have a team with differing opinions passionate to get at a solution, blah blah. I even know from this one thread that you married someone of a different ethnicity - what about that? What about parenting bi-ethnic or biracial children? Dude I could have taken your interview for you, too bad you're stuck with yourself 🙃
So funny hearing a white person trying to use the "race card". Knock it off! Work hard and actually put forth a damn effort! People of color have to have twice as many degrees and be the very top to even get an interview! Guess you aren't as good as you pump yourself up to be! Your personality is most likely lacking and you probably rubbed your interviewers the wrong way. It was probably written on your face "yeah I got this". Nope!
I had great recs and pro edited essays yea well white privilege just didn't work for me
Auto correct. Lol. Trans* or gay*
