Deloitte GPS Business Analyst vs Mercer Health Consulting Analyst?
Deloitte's offer is 7K more and in a cheaper area. Equal interest in both jobs, slight preference for Mercer for people + culture. Leaning towards Mercer because I graduate in Dec and can start in Jan vs having to wait until next summer for Deloitte + location (although higher COL)
Concerns:
Exit opportunities
Pigeonhole-ing myself into health consulting / How hard would it be to join Big 4 in a year or two if I don't like it

If you think PA is full of white supremacists, I’m curious to see what you think of firms in other industries. The Big 4 is one of the most diverse and supportive work environments I’ve been apart of.
Also, notice how no one agrees with you? Think you need a reality check
Pro
Just finished up my firm-required “South Will Rise Again” CPE training this morning and was a little suspicious
If by white supremacy you mean that the majority of leadership is white, then sure.
If you don’t like it, then grind your a** off, rise through the ranks, and initiate change little by little.
Keep that garbage victim mentality on Twitter. Minorities that want to be successful and put the work in end up being successful.
I say this as a black man that grew up in a low-income, single parent household.
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”

yes I have seen quite a few black partners - both male and female
Ok I’m just going to start off by saying as a fellow POC, I do not think the big4 are white supremacist. I’ve worked at multiple big4 and have not experienced any difference for being a minority compared to white colleagues. Do you even know what white supremacy is? White supremacy is the belief that white people are inherently racist and believe they are better and deserve control over society just for being white. Do you really think these firms would even hire you if they had a white supremacist mindset? No, they wouldn’t. Now to tackle some of the issues you mentioned in earlier posts. Yes, I have seen white people be put on PIPs, in fact, 3 of the 4 people that I’ve met personally that were put on PIPs were white. That’s the danger of using anecdotal experiences as data, it usually doesn’t represent the true picture. Especially when dealing with large multi national corporations. The fact that most of leadership is white is also not an indication of white supremacy. Unfortunately there is a difference in what POC study at school compared to white colleagues. If you looked at the total number of people studying accounting or business (which is primarily the type of people we hire), they are primarily white. That feeds up to who the firms hire, that feeds into how many POC make it up the ranks, etc, because there isn’t a large enough pool of POC to hire whiteout lowering standards. That isn’t white supremacy, that’s just math. If you want to increase the amount to POC in leadership, you have to increase the pool of applicants who are POC. Now I’m terms of POCs not getting the best opportunities, I again would have to disagree. I’ve been ranked the highest performance tier at every single big4 I’ve worked at and I’m a minority. I’ve never experienced not getting the opportunities I wanted just for being non white. All these firms have numerous programs to hire minorities and POCs as well a professional development opportunities once you are already at the firms. So based on everything you have mentioned so far, I fail to see how you could say the firms are supremacist. Now if you have ever experienced racism or discrimination personally, I would advice you to seek help as clearly that behavior is unacceptable. But to come here and say that white supremacy is a serious problem within the big4 is just ridiculous.
EY1 You don’t know my thoughts or anything about me so stop acting like you do. Best of luck to you too.
Victim mentality
Professional victim alert - waahhh I’m not rich/successful and it’s cause everyone but me 🤣
They can preach diversity all they want but it’s not happening.
Bring in the candidates - We would hire aliens from Mars at this point, as long as they can learn KcW.
Unfortunately, accounting in general hasn't historically been very diverse. It starts at the college level, if we want more diversity we need more diversity in accounting majors.
OP
Trust me it’s 500 times worse at a mid tier firm, I am a BIPOC and encountered a lot of subtle racism from managers and partners at Cohnreznick including comments on how “funny” south asian people speak
It’s very difficult to get fair raises/bonuses here despite my efforts
In my office, it’s extremely rare to see a BIPOC person at the manager level or higher. CohnReznick spouts how diverse they are but its all at the associate/senior level who end up getting pushed out of the firm before manager promotion anyways
There is a culture of bullying and exclusion towards BIPOC employees here by giving them the worst projects, raises and putting them down behind their back at golf outings
I know people roll their eyes when I cry racism and that’s fine but it’s my experience and others I spoke to at the firm. I had several BIPOC coworkers make the move to Big 4 and haven’t experienced anything close to the racism at CohnReznick
What makes you say that?
MD1 - look at statistics for CPA’s “African Americans are still underrepresented in the accounting profession: Only 2% of CPAs are Black.” This has been an issue in the industry, it has nothing to do with what schools we hire from. If everyone is equal, then CPA’s that get ahead should mirror this output (2% of audit partners should be black). This obviously doesn’t hold true for advisory and is more geared towards audit where a CPA is required.

If you look at accounting majors in college - they’re almost all white, some Asian. It’s pretty hard to hire POC to accounting positions if there aren’t enough candidates.
This doesn't align with my experience in big 4 NY offices.
Everyone has different experiences but kpmg NY office is one of the worst from what I’ve heard. They do it in non obvious ways so it doesn’t look like it’s based on race.
