Who are the best people at agencies to connect with if you're a Production Company looking to work with them? Is it Creative Directors, Is it Producers, Production Managers? Pre-Covid I would sit in lunch meetings with Production companies but really who would get those companies in the door and paid?

Definitely producers. As a GCD type I know about directors and who theyre with, and thats why I would request a specific prod company. Any other reason to go with one company over another, a producer knows about and suggests to me somewhere along the way. Every cold call email I get from prod companies or reps just pains me, I never know what to say. I cant help. I feel bad about it, but I cant help.

like

I would advise you to get a rep. Agencies have this old way of doing business where the creatives don’t know squat about production so they rely on the producers who need these reps to add another layer to the process. Then in an ironic twist the creative director will come back in review reels and have the final decision.

like

Yeah, this is what I’m saying re Sr Producer’s comment, 4 competitors, the best creative wins… ok we’ll that’s pretty subjective. And the CD’s are taking all the credit for the creative anyway. You can tell how it’ll go based on the treatment / bid process? Is that more subjective opinion or is there some criteria you can share?

Agency producer. We screen reels constantly and pass the good ones on to the creatives when we’re headed into production. I just screened 70 last weekend to make a shortlist of 20. Hit us up.

Not the Creative Directors. We choose Directors based on work we see and like but the agency Producer is the main point of contact. If we started calling Production Companies, we’d be stepping on their toes. And frankly we don’t have time or interest in doing so. We have our own problems.

like

We barely have the time to do so… But they’re right. Email the producer. If we don’t respond right away it’s because we don’t have anything relevant at the moment. But I promise you we keep your reels and your information for when the timing is right

Producers, producers, producers. Please, stop emailing me.

I love having production companies friends and their numbers on my speed dial. That’s how I’ve done some of the best work. Reaching out to CDs and Producers is great. I’m pretty sure they will find some time if you have something interesting to offer.

Creative Director 1 - Is your agency a small/medium or large size agency?

Not me. Despite the emails.

Take an executive producer out for dinner and introduce yourselves

like

You hound the producers night and day. Then on the slim chance you get down selected to 10 or whatever crazy number of competitors are in the mix, the creatives will make the final decision. It’s all very efficient.

like

If they have an Executive Producer, that’s your target audience. If not, go for creative directors.

like

The agency producer. They manage setting up those meetings/shows (which is obviously only a small part of their job).

like

It’s admittedly difficult, because many of the decisions are in the hands of “agency” producers, but those producers are more and more frequently freelancers who circulate between multiple agencies and are only given an agency email for the duration of the project.

You’d connect with me

like

Agree, executive/senior producers. CDs would most likely forward your stuff to them, so might as well go directly to them.

Agency producer

like

Don’t go to LinkedIn and hit up every account person to connect followed by spamming them asking to set up a meeting to pitch your services.

like

Ask the account to put you in touch with the lead producer on a job

like

At agencies, it’s the producers. But the bigger and better opportunities for (savvy, expert) prodcos are found in reaching out to brands directly.

like

Along with the producers - the Jr / Sr creative team. They’re the ones making the work and involved in the selection of the production houses.

Seeking gift guidance for my mom! Her birthday is coming up and I normally get her experiences as gifts so that we can do something together (a show, a game, etc). I live far away now and it won’t be feasible to come home; she’s being pretty covid cautious, so most experiences are off the table. Any suggestions? She is 68, loves taking walks and talking to friends, and never feels like she has enough time in the day (1-2yrs to retirement). All suggestions welcome, wide price range!

I find that single male friends of friends are generally very eager when we first met or were introduced (through events, common friends’ parties). I got invited to their hangout bunch / house parties (pre-covid), but the moment we established i have no romantic interest and only friendships, they disappeared and we become barely acquaintance. I genuinely want to keep them in my life as friends. Why is this the case?

Curious, are attorneys taking cases to sue hospitals and staff that the family members claim have ‘wrongly’ intubated unvaccinated COVID patients? As in they should not have been intubated? Saw a FB page where a woman is blaming the hospital staff that his husband should not have been intubated and says she has been contacted by many attorneys to sue the hospital.

Anyone else at a firm so rooted in the past that you’re embarrassed explaining it to other attorneys? Example: We are 10 months into COVID and my firm still hasn’t decided on/implemented a video meeting platform (Zoom, Teams, etc.). So if I want to have a video meeting I have to ask the other party to use their video services. And it’s not at all a funding issue.

Because of the current scenario I’m skeptical of bringing my home cooked dip.

Does anyone know of where to find remote part time work opportunities for older Indian women? My mom was a part-time after school teacher but has not been doing that due to covid (dad is high risk). She’s a great teacher though and she’s trilingual (Telugu, hindi) - anyone know of where to find opportunities?

Currently working at Accenture as a C (promoted Dec ‘19), but I know I ultimately want to make the jump over to Deloitte. I am on track to be promoted to M in the 2021 promo cycle and I know Deloitte would likely knock me down one level either way. Due to COVID-19, it seems like it doesn’t make sense to jump ship for at least another year while things get back to normal. Any thoughts on if it’s better to wait it out and leave after making M (but how long after?) or try to leave earlier? TIA
