Who are the five people you meet in Agency Hell?

1. The Account Director who literally parrots others words and never uses “we”. 2. The creatives who only respect senior team members. 3. The Client who demands a short turnaround and then doesn’t provide next steps or feedback for days. 4. The PM who can’t provide a correct timeline. 5. The Agency that cares only about awards instead of the people who came up with the idea behind the award.

like

1. The person who finishes the pot of coffee and “forgets” to brew a new one. Then keeps “forgetting” even when you catching finishing the pot and walking away. (Those of you who work or have worked at smaller agencies will get it).
2. The person who keeps “borrowing” pens from other people’s desks.
3. The people who are mean to the receptionist.
4. The CEO or senior manager who won’t say hello back in the elevator to junior staff.
5. The monster who keeps stealing and eating my clearly labeled sandwich from the agency fridge.

1) Junior client with big opinions 2) Creepy-at-happy-hour ECD 3) Account Director who’s afraid to say no 4) Strategist who writes headlines and thinks they’re strategy 5) Holding company CEO who could care less about their employees

3. The guy with $1,500 sneakers who lives paycheck to paycheck
4. The team that always presents a 3+ min video and suggests creating a micro site to host it
5. That guy from the Chevy Real People commercials. And a Malibu with his entire family inside

1. A senior digital strategist who conflates outlandish questions with provocative insights. 2. An account director who thinks “having heart for the idea” is an actual sales tactic. 3. A copywriter who knows basic HTML5. 4. Any SVP/VP who thinks there’s a task at their agency that’s below them. 5. An art director who is constantly being asked to design things.

likesmartfunny

that copywriter is me 🙄 what do i do?

likefunny

A project manager who says they are “too busy to read email,” an art director who doesn’t understand color and says things like “make it pop” to a retoucher, an account person who is afraid of the client, a media person who doesn’t know Excel, and a cost consultant of literally any kind.

like

PM1 sorry pm like you are the exception and not the PM you find in Agency hell. Because you also probably get your shit done. It’s different to say “I missed your email” or “I’m swamped and haven’t gotten to it” then to be too entitled to do basic work so they say “I’m too busy to read emails"

helpful

If it’s only 5 then it’s not hell

likefunny

1 Creatives who scream. 2 Copy says that I’m difficult because I explain paying actors is not optional. And don’t write scripts with 100 people! 3 Jr Account doesn’t get schedule, won’t let me explain. 4 Designers make/post videos without my knowledge. Nothing is licensed. 5 Recruiters who want “rockstars”. I’m trying to avoid getting us sued, sorry I can’t also polish Excel, learn HTML, paddle-boarding & Mandarin.

likefunny

Anyone emailing you about doing time sheets

like

1. The client that never responds to you and refuses to pay, wants everything done in 1 day and with no money, can never decide
2. Your supervisor who never works, gives you all of their work, then lies and says they did your work
3. The finance person who refuses to process your expenses and makes you redo it 10,000 times
4. The agency idiot who thinks they are smart and better than you, tries to offer advice you don't need to make them look like a supervisor
5. Any employee who thinks the ruder they are to other employees, the better they look / the employees who never do any work and shop online all day

My CD at accentmarketing. (Not my ECD - she was a sweetheart. My CD.) Stole ideas. Took credit for them. Was a hack job extraordinaire. Total kiss-ass.

Fortunately, I’ve worked with so many GREAT people, that it took me a while to pick one bad one. (Actually came up with two, but the other dude was on serious drugs. Hoping he cleaned up, by now.)

It's always been a dream of mine to work at Google, specifically as a UX designer (currently transitioning into UX from visual design). I've been so afraid to apply to any jobs with UX title, Google or not, because I'm always doubting myself and telling myself I'm still under-qualified.

UX designers & hiring managers, what are the skills a designer must have to be "qualified" for a UX position? Keywords on resume? Certifications? Thank you all in advance!

Do people think that remote roles limit upward mobility?
It seems that remote work is generally viewed as desirable given the flexibility it provides and the possibility of receiving high TC while living in a LCOL area. I wonder though if joining a company remote will ultimately make it harder to gain more responsibility and receive higher TC. I also wonder whether there is anything that prevents a company from changing their remote policy, thus forcing a move. Maybe this is too new to know.

Learning how to cook is a great money saver and allows you high quality meals that beat what most restaurants and fast food can offer.
