I got carded at the Marriott Magnificent Mile in Chicago. Funnily enough it turns out the base rate was cheaper than the corporate rate anyways ha
Just looked the jw up...yes nicer than that
Since I frequently work with all sorts of B4/MBB companies in partnerships on projects, in the few times they've asked I just mention I'm subcontracting with them and offer to show them the emails. Never have they asked me to pull out a laptop to get it. I think just knowing I'm willing has worked.
That’s exactly what I say every time but the two times I was “carded” they asked me to show them the emails in which I responded I don’t have my laptop at the moment and they said ok, well keep you on the standard rate but will gladly change it once you show us the emails. You’re not doing/saying anything special. It works most of the time but a select few properties are just really anal about this.
That is why after your rotation through the firms, you keep you business cards from each.
Most aren’t branded
Never use GDY.. you will always be carded for that code.. paid a huge price in NYC
Good thing the St Regis NY is a dirty dump
What property? Save us all the headache
Went to St Regis in New York and they carded
What does it mean to be carded?
Good tip on the GDY. Just booked a few on that code. Let’s see.
Often book the better of our code, DTC or IBM, and never have been checked. The only time I was was when I used the government rate.
Just got carded for the first time at a Marriott (in Seattle for reference). Guy said to expect to be asked a lot more going forward - they’ve been instructed to start checking IDs for corp rates.
just that location or companywide?
My EY ID doesn’t actually say the name of my firm on it. Have used occasionally, but it scares me. St Regis NY definitely has started cracking down
Lanyard?
I think the whole thing is ironic - regardless of the firm you work at, most of us are spending significant $$ at the chain
Is Marriott starting to card more? Or is it just a few places?
I was once carded at the Residence Inn in Vancouver during an exceptionally busy weekend when everything was pricey and booked and I was on a very competitive corp rate. Other than that, close to 1000 nights, never been carded.
How do you prove that you have the right to use a certain discount code?
You never prove it. U just tell them you’re contracted to work with them and they never usually say anything. When they ask you to prove it, that’s when you’re shit out of luck but it rarely happens
Just booked a vacation next week in Florence and Rome on the DTC code. Hope I don’t run into any issues...😬
lol OP with the follow up. i’m curious too though.
What city?
I got asked for an ID in New York too a couple of weeks ago
Do tell more OP. Can’t leave your fellow fish hanging like that :)
That is not how volume based discounts work. Deloitte must be spending more than Oliver Wyman so Deloitte gets more discounts. Most of the consultants here stay at Marriott.
I got carded at the Westin River North in Chicago
Not abbreviated. (Damn this is killing me, why can’t I find it on the Google?)
What does carded mean? Is this showing your business card?
Yes
