Don’t give them ideas, otherwise the next thing you know is Mr President and his team changing the name of cities during the elections.
Ads here are tailored to Americans. India is not good or bad at it, just different. Specially when most of the American brands advertise in India , the Indian way. Your perception of ‘smart’ and ‘connection’ translates to ‘tacky’ and ‘ melodramatic’ here.
OP, repeating the same thing over doesn’t make it right. One last try , if you put a dog in the ad , most Americans will associate with it. Pets are a big deal here ‘emotionally’ .My mother doesn’t care much about my dog videos though. She thinks it’s stupid. On the other hand ,Cooking food for your mother in law for the first time waiting for her approval will be consider sexist here. Forget about all those ads about fairness creams. Here that will be racist. The popular fevicol ad will remind them of the immigrants crossing the border. Indians would prefer an ‘uncle’ or big B selling insurance vs a gecko or a duck. I bet ‘incredible India’ ads make you cry a river , do you feel the same way for ‘beautiful china’?
EY2. No man, the ads in India are definitely creative. Take the Vodafone zoozoo or the Vodafone pug ads for instance. To your point, they used a dog or other characters. But made it funny and it was a hit. American ads are more cookie cutter. Few funny ones but mostly just dull
I do too! That was the first thing I noticed in this country. Horrible ads!
It’s like saying American good is bland and maybe they should learn something from Indian food. Different audience guys. Do you really think companies would spend millions on ads if they think they don’t work. We all know how much of our shows and movies are “inspired” from Hollywood.
Btw, how many here actually pay for American channels? I would guess less than 5%
I don't know if it's just a thread with terrible consultants or its just the desi syndrome. Ey2 and K1 being the exceptions.
References and associations are different for each culture. Ad agencies that are being paid several millions per ad know what works and what doesn't for each market. Your definition "creative" is through the lense you grew up with. Blindly applying that to another culture is pure ignorance!
Indians or Desis judging Indian/American ads and then concluding superiority is biased opinion.
One thing that can be concluded though is that Indians like Indian ads more than American ads.
🙋🏽♀️
Yes! Sometimes I watch TV in India just for the ads.
I have found the ads here more out of the box and diverse. Examples: Geico and Allstate insurance series. Also don’t miss the super bowl ads especially Doritos
Amen.
@kpmg1 I find the Geico ads annoying. There are very few product ads and they are all about medications, insurance or cars. Nothing else.
India is definitely good at it. Please check YouTube to see many of them. Even amazon ads in India are more meaningful and actually have an emotional connect. You remember the product, marketing is so good in India.
Yo. Before you know advertising consulting will be outsourced . No new ideas.
I remember some branding classes where they said establish a connect. Here though they try but there is a lot f emphasis just on product n it’s features. With some bizarre sounds😛
Although it’s interesting to note that even through ads in India are made by Indian directors and creators, who know the market the best, the production companies are in a few instances multinational organizations. So they know that Indian ads are creative. I think they don’t care much about TV ads these days as companies know that the sources of revenue is shifting online where catered ads are what is becoming more relevant.
M2 - It’s a thread with A terrible consultant - you being that individual. Get off your high horse. It’s a bunch of people defending their opinion. They might be right, might be wrong. Make your point move on. Got it? Okay
Did I hurt your feelings AM1? You want a cookie??
As long as it’s chocolate chip, yes 😊
