Who has decided to voluntarily leave a toxic workplace without a backup plan? If you did, how long did your job search take after the fact? Do you have any helpful suggestions or motivation to make that leap of faith?

I did. If you can afford it financially take it. You'd feel better trust me. Nothing is more precious than your mental health.

My toxic work place had cost me my relationship. So you never know which areas of your life might be getting affected because of your work. Go for it!!!

True that. Work forms a major part of our physical mental and emotional health

I did, despite everyone's warning I did so without a second thought. Many said it was unwise but honestly I got the best out of it. Yes I did have the luxury of staying with my parents and had saved up my meagre salary. It took me around 3-4 months to join a new organization. I left in Jan end and joined the new org in May end.
If financial obligations won't let you leave then try to move within the org. The change in role and responsibilities do help. And in the meantime if you get an offer, leave.

Yes I was questioned..since it was more than 3 months they questioned my gap. I stated I took it for personal reasons. Ideally companies are not supposed to ask you in detail when you mention "personal reasons" or "family related reasons". They usually want to know if you were working elsewhere in that gap.

I took a slightly different route. I took sabbatical of 2 months saying that I want to focus on my mental health and problems in my personal life, which was not lie at that time. After break of 10 days...I started looking for job and got one in a month. You can try this if your organization agree to sabbatical.
P.S. I took sabbatical without pay. But only benefit in this case is I had backup.

If you are stressed or anxious or depressed then you can ask for a note from your doctor to take leave under FMLA and possibly with short term disability benefits.

I was on medication for 2 months. I had planned to leave in 60 days without a job in hand. But at the end of 45 days I had an offer. N I resigned

I have done it. I was getting offers after leaving company but they were into same kind of hush hush and start up roles. I wanted to avoid it completely and wanted something stable. After 2 months of sitting I stopped getting any offer. After 3-4 months I joined as BA intern where they promised to make me permanent after 3 months. But during first two months only I went through Amazon interviews and cleared. Hike, work life, growth everything has been fantastic since then. Now I feel it is good that I was without job for 8 months.

If you feel your boss is bad try changing team or if company culture is bad and you can survive without job for 3-4 months, leave it. You may get an offer during notice period itself or it may take upto 6 months. But during that time you can upskill. There are many many jobs out there where life is good, no need to stick to toxic jobs.

I did from a private sector retail banking job, took me three months to get a job in my earlier domain. It was a painful wait but my family was very supportive throughout.

I was also discouraged by my banking colleagues that I wouldn't be able to get a job other than retail banking domain.

Did it in my younger years and got temp work right away. Don’t think I could do it now with a mortgage.

Yeah, that’s my biggest concern. The mortgage is a blessing and a curse!

Tomorrow I have 2 interviews: for Market Data Analyst @ CS, and for Client Data Analyst @ AXA XL. I'm currently Junior Managed Operations Analyst @ FIS, with half YOE on this position, and almost a year as Audit Intern @ KPMG. I've decided to apply for those positions as just within those 6 months I've outperformed all of my team members except of 1 witch has over 3 YEO. I don't see more opportunities to grow there.

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.

Hi, I design and teach online programs in higher ed. I’m going through final interviews at a consulting company this week. After my first interview, the recruiter called me today and said that I should emphasize my project management skills and an ability to own a workstream. I am positive I do have those skills but how would I demonstrate that? Should I send a thank you note to the interviewer and mention that I have those skills? Or emphasize those skills in my upcoming interviews?
