Strategists. All levels.

Here we go…

ACDs (and CDs under in-the-weeds ECDs) have the most thankless job in the biz. No real say over the final product, no real control over its creation.

So they can really only sand off edges so things are less objectionable. Or plus them up incrementally. Then, they have to gently advocate for themselves and the value they added to their bosses while trying to retain a teams’ respect, which is tough if they have no real power. And yes, they’re still learning to take accountability and give credit.

If an ACD is insecure, it usually has something to do with their boss. (And often, and I know you don’t want to hear this, the team.)

STRATEGISTS

It seems that guys worked with terrible strategists. I honestly had only good experience with strategy folks. Here at my shop they are really good peopl to have around.

With ACDs however I had a lot of terrible experiences when I was more jr. And I saw a lot of sr people turning into big assholes when promoted. Small power syndrome.

Luckily this title doesn’t exist here.

Art directors. I just graduated college so I’ve only worked w them in school. They couldn’t take any constructive criticism and in one instance I had one that would just create their own copy instead of using my lines. I’m sure they’re not all like what I’ve experienced. The student ADs scarred me. Lol.

ACDs for sure. Not the biggest egos but definitely the most fragile.

I just changed my role to project management...I start to hate this when I'm doing the detailed plans. I have never been a detailed oriented person and it takes too much of my mental energy when working on very details. I guess I'm happy about the change I made but still need to find something I want to do in long run.

I've been noticing a new trend in biglaw passive aggressiveness: Adding a question mark to a non-question when you're following up on something. E.g., "Hi X, just wanted to check in on Y as the client would like to see a draft as soon as possible? When can we expect this?"

And to the people who do this... why?

Many are wondering what’s wrong with ClearView. The problem is straightforward, if the way ClearView is organizing a project such that when one analyst or senior analyst (22 to 24 year old) fails at something, stakes are high enough that an project’s fate depends on it, then ClearView is putting way too much responsibility on its Junior staff, not promoting and severely underpaying them. Maybe it’s time ClearView brought in a consulting firm to ease its org problems

I'm at a small agency in NYC and the health benefits for a family are almost prohibitively expensive, ~1,500/mo with a high deductible.
