However, I liked his opinion that the first priority of schools should be education. We sacrifice education in the name of safety all the time, with this year being a doozy. How do you feel about his statement about education?

Does anyone work in a school where they are taking steps to fix the current boy achievement problem in the nation? Boys are falling further and further behind girls by every metric possible. College enrollment rates are now 60/40. Boys are disciplined and suspended way more. Boys are medicated much more. Girls are highest ranked students by 7 to 3. 1 in 8 of all American males are unemployed. There is a major boy crisis in America.

My school has used The Boomerang Project in the past to help students transition from middle to high school. By the time I found out the 2 teachers who lead the program were leaving our school it was too late to receive the training last spring. I looked today to see when the next training is happening so I could talk to my principal about signing up, however every training is sold out! I'm changing classroom themes this year, and thinking to try a more interactive, velcro word wall. Our word wall is just...there. I want to make flip chart stories for Language that include blank velcro spaces for our words, so that the kids see me pull and use them in read aloud examples.

Anyone else tried this? I'm hoping for durability through weekly use, here...
