Who makes an affordable quality work shirt? I’ve always bought Charles Tyrwhitt, but over the past year I seem to have elbow blowouts much more frequently. I’m curious if other people noticed this or do I just wear the shirt down faster than normal? For context my number of days in the office have not gone up so I’m not using the shirts more than normal.

Sounds like the arms are too tight you may need to go up a size and dart the waist.

They’re a little bit more, but I would recommend going to Suitsupply. If you are in London, go to the one on Saville row and book an appointment with Peter (he’s done a tux, wedding suit and shirts for me and is the bees knees!). He’ll fit you for custom shirts, keep your measurements on file and you can reorder. Fitting is free. I can’t tell you what a difference it makes. Choice and quality of materials is as good as anything on Saville row at 1/20 of the price. Suitsupply👍🏼

Ps Charles T, TM Lewis, Roderick Charles etc all use same factory, and yes cheaper materials, generic fits by collar and ‘slim’ and single stitching all lead to blowouts costing you more in long run.

Charles Tyrwhitt replaces your shirt for free if you bring your worn out shirt to their store.

That’s terrific customer service!

100%. I have shirts from years ago that don’t compare the new ones.

I always buy my H the brooks brothers regent shirts. Great prints and quality shirts IMO.

I've heard you shouldn't quit because of another employee. Two times in my career managers have tried to get me fired to cover up their own incompetence or mistakes. I played it well and they ended up being fired. They were very abusive to staff.

Now I'm dealing with a frankly insane coworker and I really don't feel like waiting it out or playing some game. It's exhausting.

I have a brand new person on my team- she is totally new to the field, has recently returned to the workforce (solo mom of 3 teens), is very smart. I knew when I hired her that I’d have to lean in to get her to where she needed to be. She has a ton of potential but lacks experience in a professional setting. I need to help her level up her written communication skills. Any suggestions on books, resources, strategies? She is learning by doing and takes feedback but I want more supports for her.

I love my job and the people I work with, but there’s one thing that really bothers me: the lack of diversity. Sometimes when I walk into the office and see everyone else around me as the only POC, it feels kind of weird. I don’t think anyone here has ever said anything racist or sexist to me personally, but I don’t feel comfortable talking about these issues with anyone because they might take it personally and then things could get awkward between us.

There is a paralegal (not mine) in my firm that is making everyone miserable. She cries at her desk, complains about being overworked and is rude to the other paralegals, staff, and a couple of the attorneys. She is so disrespectful to me that I recently asked to work from home for a month (I am dealing with some other mental health issues and she is too much). My request was granted, and last Friday I was in the office to make sure several motions were filed properly. Continued in comment:

Hi question: let’s say you have a client who kicked his ex gf’s leg rather than the door and left bruising. UK charge is assault by beating; is this considered “serious bodily harm” by UK standards ?

Team is considering a baby photo guess who game. While most of the team has a similar ethnic background, there are only a few of us that ‘stand out’. I have always hated this activity as a minority in the group. Obviously that is me, no need to pretend to struggle or call out how easy it is to guess. If I don’t participate, I may look like a spoil sport, but I don’t feel like playing along with this nonsense. How do I voice my discomfort to the organizers in a productive way?

Anybody work on a small team where you are the only diverse member? I have always worked in places where by chance the group was diverse. I just started this job and didn’t think this would bother me because everyone seemed nice. But frankly don’t understand the jokes or the stuff they want to talk about. Feeling kind of out of place and finding myself just smiling and nodding a lot in these zoom meets.

So embarrassed. I literally had one job to do today which was to schedule a client and give and take her paperwork when she came in. Totally called her by the wrong name today AND gave her the wrong paperwork. She was really nice about it but I feel like my boss was disappointed and I'm disappointed in myself. I don't want her to think I won't be able to keep clients straight when I start doing supervised sessions.

Hello ladies, do any of you feel like you don't fit in to the 'guys guy' culture at work? How do you deal with it?

I work at a company where there are 30+ men in the office and only three women. Recently there was a golf outing and the managers invited everyone except for me and the other two women. This is an overt example, but there have been a few other small instances of weirdness. Do I try harder to put myself out there or do I just stay in my lane at work?

Any tips are helpful!

Got a job offer and want to put in my notice at work but am not sure the most respectful way to go about it. Especially now that we're all remote. Should I just put time on my boss's calendar and tell them? Or go directly to HR? Or is there another way to do it?

SO beyond frustrated with my work environment I think it may be time to leave for good. I returned from maternity leave after 4 years of working at my very old-school, boys club, nepotism-friendly company. The number of remarks I got on my appearance, my pregnancy and etc was a little annoying before I left, but since I've come back it's been nothing but comments on how they can't believe I'm leaving my husband home with the baby etc. Sorry for the long post just needed to vent!!

I have a videocon interview this week. BigLaw-to-BigLaw. I’m interested in the job, but don’t feel strongly about it. Obviously, I would look presentable no matter what. My ASM is lazy and is incapable of doing the easiest basic tasks with recruitment. She receives all my end of day updates, is cc’d on all emails, makes me fill out 5 repetitive excel/smart sheet, and joins all my meetings but she still wants to call having me 5x daily about updates. I’m always the one to go to if other recruiters fail to meet client deadlines and cleaning up recruiters mistakes. How do I even handle this to begin with?

TFW the partner (who is hardly engaged or stays up to speed on the project) rolls in for the day and decides to sit in and derail every meeting 😔
