K1; if you’re one of those people who said the unemployment benefits were the reason people didn’t go back to work then it’s time to acknowledge the data is proving you wrong. The absence of unemployment benefits actually makes recovery harder and slower.
The data isn't proving anyone wrong. It's just not proving anyone right either. Failing to reject a null doesn't prove a null.

Or as the article said they decided to stay home because maybe one spouse got a job. Or they decided to go to college or pursue other opportunities or want to remain remote. Whatever the reason unemployment benefits was low on the list of reasons they weren’t looking so no need to keep providing them then.
No matter what it is A waste of money at this point. They don’t have to go get jobs but absolutely no reason to keep burning extra money when if they do want or need a job there are options.
Do you know what a lagging indicator is?

I do. Do you?
Sounds like the company did them a disservice by not looking at categories of people…age, industry, etc. and instead did a high-level swag.
This other analysis saw that the age group being employed is shifting. Not good, necessarily, bc it speaks to a skill gap that remains. I see that as an ongoing post-pandemic concern: we have 1-2yrs of “lost education growth”.
