A position just opened up in my company that would pay more and play to my experience but HR is saying that since I’m on boarding (started a new job 2 months ago) it might be an issue. The new job would provide financial relief and move my career forward, but don’t want to just dip a job I just started. Any advice? (Please no sarcastic comments)

My significant other is not in law and has an 8am-5pm job that is also rewarding to him. I work in big law. We have been together for four years now and he still cannot accept that my job is different (e.g. that I have to answer emails at night or work on weekends with little advance notice). I somehow feel guilty for not being that present but I also don’t like the fact that I focus less on work due to him. Has somebody been in a similar position? How did/would you handle that?

At what point is it okay to ignore work-related emails and messages when you're on vacation? I'm on PTO and have not gone a single day without opening my work laptop. They ask me to work on things when they know I am on PTO. Managers also keep sending meeting invites on my calendar when it's blocked off with out of office.
