Who who decides what gets capitalized, bolded, etc? CWs or ADs? Interestingly, not everyone at work agrees.

I’d suggest following the brand guidelines when it comes to capitalization. If the brand doesn’t have any, then it’s the copywriter’s call since it’s a stylistic copy choice. I’d also argue that the copywriter determines which text is bold. Bold indicates emphasis, so the copywriter should be determining the emphasis in the story.

Capitalized is a grammar/writer call, but bolded would be a visual choice so AD. (Knowing very little about the situation of course)

It’s a little bit of both. If capitalization and bolding change the meaning of the line in some way, or the tone, then it is well within the rights of a cw to request a change

Most brands I’ve worked on have very specific guides on capitalization and punctuation. Bold is usually a design choice! If you look at different brands, you’ll see some go all lowercase all the time (even headlines) Just depends on the brand

I’d like to humbly suggest consulting a copy editor. 😇

Copywriter makes the call unless there’s a template that dictates otherwise due to brand guidelines

Hi, I am a newly graduate, with plans of starting at BCG as an associate in September. But just now got an offer as Chief of Staff at a database company w higher compensation. Career wise, is BCG always the best option? I feel that the DB company is quite thrilling since it starts an expansion phase to APAC/AUS with HQ in Silicon Valley. But I do appreciate that BCG is a good brand/good schooling. Any tips? Is Chief of Staff a good role even? Is it basically being a secretary?
