Anyone at Nike? What’s the vibe?
For those of you who build websites, how do you display your built sites on your portfolio site? Do you have a page where you mock up the site or do you do a direct link? I currently have both. I’m just trying to figure out the best way for me. Here is my site for reference. The links for the sites are in the menu and below in the gallery. Sarahbellestudios.com

And I hve no idea what school you went to that only costed 17 grand…lmao.
But if that’s some general assembly 6 month curriculum, then honestly dude, 55/hr makes sense
I’ve been told that by somebody with a beard.
Mmmm I was making 200k 4 years into my career as a UX/product designer. Think you’re just applying to the wrong roles mate.
Pay scales are different from different companies. Usually depends on your talent, portfolio experience, type of project and client maturity level around UX.
UX can pay well given the right company and talent.
Did you go to school or get a certificate from a bootcamp?
Mentor
I mean, I’m 1 year into UX making 110k in the Bay Area. When i interned in Advertising in NYC the pay was shit, so I think it depends on where you are.
I didn’t even go to UX school and I make almost 100k in a slightly smaller city (switch from being and AD). What’s your portfolio like? What experience do you have? I would contact for 6-12 months and then apply to roles that pay more (that’s what got me in the door). I’m right below average for my position but I only have 2 years experience.
What kind of roles are you applying to?
What level jobs are you applying to, though? Are they junior roles?
@OP, I think you need to be more specific.
There's a gamut of firms that are not "agencies" that hire for UX folks. Pay can vary highly, based on specific industries.
What industries were you looking at? What level were these roles? And what was this "UX School" that cost $17Gs? I'm fairly familiar with educational options out there so I assume it was some kind of Boot camp (though the price tag you describe is on the high side).
Given the pay you're getting, I'd probably also assume you're coming in at a lower level as well.
As someone who has worked in both agencies and major Consultancies, consulting companies pay higher on average.
In established industries with a lot of UX demand (e.g. Consumer banking, CPG/retail/ecomm etc.) UX salaries likely edge out agency salaries from a TC/benefits aspect.
I’ll reply here to address a number of people asking similar questions. These should help give more info:
• The UX school was General Assembly. The full UX Design immersive.
• I have 15+ years experience in digital advertising, including UX-based projects (websites, games, mobile apps, etc)
• I currently have an in-house job as a UX designer at a big company (the pay is about 30% less than what I got in advertising for a similar level. I took this pay hit because I switched careers)
• I live in New York, my entire work experience is in New York at big global agencies
• I get contacted by recruiters 3–4 times per week and they all have these lowball numbers
• I apply to new jobs every couple weeks, when I get to the phone interview stage, the numbers are also low amounts
I didn’t answer those questions because I was talking about the role and pay, but this is what I do:
Lead meetings w/ top-level stakeholders and to get buy-in for the work.
The business folks who are totally lost ask me to create a top-level strategy and I use this to spawn strategy decks, briefs, plans and roadmaps.
Write briefs and requirements.
Create schedules and roadmaps for the program managers.
Create service flows, journey maps and user flows.
Concept product, experience and service ideas.
Manage direct reports comprising of visual designers, writers and software devs.
My projects run the gamut. Sometimes I’m doing service design, other times I’m focusing on content, other times I’m literally steering a whole project from top the bottom.
Got this today. “Senior UX Designer”
I’ve used more than a few titles. UX Designer, Product Designer, UX Director. I manage people and present directly to stakeholders.
What level is “Senior UX Designer”? It seems to be equivalent to Mid-level or even Junior Art Director in adversing. That means for the same years of experience, UX pays less than advertising.
