If you are starting as an Audit Associate some time from now with Deloitte or any of the big 4, do they expect you to have passed/completed all 4 parts by the time you start? Received the Becker Reimbursement email from the recruiter not too long ago but have yet to start. I’ve seen plenty of people get to Senior at a big 4 firm without the CPA so I am a bit confused in that aspect. Any helpful feedback will be very much appreciated.

Never seen it. Vegan here. Can confirm, I love it. I’m healthy, fit and eat all the stuff I like. I used to have digestive issues, all good now. Be prepared for everyone and their mom to give you their opinion about your diet, and to field all kinds of silly questions eating out with people. “OMG is that really going to fill you up? I would be hungry again right after.” For me it’s from the same people. Over and over and over again. And again. I’m like actually this bean burger and fries is about 1200 calories, you will not be hungry.
I’ll take a bacon vodka shot!
Yep - the day I watched what the health is the day I stopped eating meat . 2+ years ago now. Most of the claims in that documentary are admittedly extreme. Funnily enough, I actually went out of my way to research and prove the documentary wrong - and in doing so I realized it got a lot more right than it got wrong.
Despite still having some “sensationalized” facts, the amount of correct facts was overwhelmingly enough to convince me to drop the propaganda I’ve lived since birth, that I need meat or somehow deserve meat.
I’ve been 2 years veg and 1.5 years vegan now, and I can already tell you there won’t be ANY health impact unless you’re in the .1% of population that genuinely needs to eat meat. Everyone else who “tried veganism” and felt health impact just didn’t do it correctly. (I take zero supplements (nutritional yeast covers b12), my blood levels are excellent and cholesterol? Doctor looked at my result and said “you’re vegan, aren’t you. True story).
Other good sources to read: omnivores dilemma (Michael pollan), The way we eat (Peter singer), eating animals (Jon froer), and how not to die (Michael Gregor). Highly recommend everyone to read these books.
That “documentary” is nothing more than a bad propaganda piece. Kip Anderson has no credentials and presents only one side to a very two sided scientific debate. If you want to be vegan, go for it, but don’t do it based on bad science from a propaganda video.
Vegan here as well! I made the switch from being a meat eater to vegan basically overnight four years ago, but mostly because I had realized meat really bothered my stomach. I’m also allergic to eggs and dairy, so I figured I would just make the jump straight to vegan, and I’ve never looked back.
It was definitely an adjustment, but for me it was well worth it. I do understand that everyone’s dietary needs vary, and a diet that works well for one person might not work well for another. That being said, there are tons of ways to make veganism work for you. I would suggest making sure you’re getting a good variety of foods in your diet, and the more whole plant-based foods the better. You can take supplemental vitamins, but I’ve found that if I’m getting a good variety of foods, I don’t really need to add anything. But do what makes you feel best. And if you’re not quite ready to give up meat 100%, there are now a ton of meat substitutes that do a fantastic job of mimicking the real thing (check out Beyond Meat burgers and sausages).
I’m surprised at the fact that OP asked a question about veganism, (and plenty of good responses) and yet got a bunch of meat eaters with the intense need to jump in and defensively justify themselves.
OP is debating a personal choice to go vegan. If there is no reason for OP to specifically NOT go vegan (there isn’t), then why jump in at all with Your personal reasons why you aren’t? Makes it seem like you’re just trying to justify your own actions to yourself and soothe your conscience, in my opinion.
I’m not judging anyone for their choices but I do hope they are actually based on facts rather than myths or fads. As someone who has spent my entire life very close to ranching and agriculture it is concerning to me the bad rep eating meat gets. Farmers and ranchers are some of the most environmentally friendly people you will ever find. Economic times are tough in agriculture and we need all the help we can get to continue to provide a sustainable food source.
I was indeed talking about factory farming in my last point. I literally parenthesized “industrialized agriculture”. You are saying the same thing.
I watched it. Vegan for almost 2 years and haven’t looked back. The animal cruelty aspect is what keeps me vegan, but from a health perspective I think dairy is without a doubt the main culprit you should stay away from. Also, you may want to watch the movie Game Changers which just came out. I haven’t seen it but it’s about vegan athletes and looks informative.
Lastly- minimalistbaker.com has excellent vegan recipes.
I try not to watch those shows as I am worried I would have to give up meat after seeing what goes on behind the scenes with the processing, handling, etc. Trying to enjoy my willful ignorance
You should look into Steve Irwin’s thoughts on this. Obviously nobody can argue the man didn’t love animals, but he also had a healthy respect for how the food chain works. The point is - animals are meant to eat other animals. We can talk all day along about doing so humanely and not trying to inflict undue harm or misery and I’d agree with all of that, but ultimately again, animals are meant to eat other animals. It appears that some people can’t accept basic biology.
You see it best when vegans or vegetarians start imposing their views on their pets who are largely supposed to be eating carnivore diets and their pets develop all sorts of issues because of it. It’s disgusting.
Yes, some do and it’s horrible for their pets but they’re too radicalized.
I’m quite impressed the topic of food is the most contentious thread on Fish Bowl 🤣
That documentary was a little extreme. Go watch Eating Animals, it was a lot more real and impactful! Talks about how farming animals is killing the planet rather than them being bad for your health (which is also true imo)
Sigh people get so offended . My favorite is “so you think eating animals is wrong-why” yet that person probably spends thousands on having a pet yet will complain that their McDonald’s burger costs more than a dollar. Both are animals!
Vegan, vegetarian or any form of diet is totally a personal choice, prob have a lot of good sides to these. But since human are born omnivore, I personally believe in eating as how I was created, ie eating a well balanced diet with a bit of everything. Balance is the key people, aren’t we all accounts who love the word balanced😼
Watch Game Changers and Forks over Knives. Life changing !!
im so excited for game changers to be available 10/1!!!
I’m Vegan too!! But haven’t watched this. I’m scared to 🙊
I saw it and went vegan for two weeks. I think the sudden shifts made me too healthy as I had so much energy I could not sleep at night. Also my limbs lost feeling every once in a while (B12 deficiency) so I changed to pescatarian. I’ve found it’s the happy medium for me, and I don’t get criticism anymore (like what KPMG1 was discussing). It’s so strange how much other people care about what you eat...
Also vegan! Best decision I ever made. Had to relearn how to eat the best balance of foods for the first few months, but thriving and healthier than ever now. I do blood tests once every year or so, no deficiencies now (: - better than before I was vegan.
Haven’t watched it, have seen stuff like it. Doesn’t change my opinion about eating meat. Will not go vegan, and see no reason to. You can call for more humane practices with meat, but going vegan doesn’t really do that. Power to you if you do go that route though, it’s just not for me.
I was soooo hungry for kebabs after that documentary
@EY 6 — 🙏🏼 💛🖤
I understand not eating meet and eggs as a personal choice (I’m guessing none of you have food allergies- I’m allergic to soy, most nuts, and most raw fruits and vegetables (I can eat them cooked, but raw they even make may hand break out in a rash), and I can understand wanting milk from humanely cares for animals without hormones and excessive antibiotics, but I don’t understand no milk other than for those who are allergic to milk. Mother’s milk is our first, best food. How can anyone claim out bodies were not intended to take in milk?
Lactose tolerance into adulthood is a genetic mutation.
I couldn’t go vegan but eat vegetarian more often then not. Just make sure you are getting enough B12.
