Parochial actually means “having a limited or narrow outlook or scope” too, btw (in addition to its church meaning). So OP’s use is also correct.

If only I had googled too. Thank you!
Are you from the late 1800s?

As someone who was educated in catholic schools, the word “parochial” is so triggering. What do they do, support the local catholic elementary school’s flag football team?

In all seriousness, if you’re questioning the general population of Boston’s loyalty to the Catholic Church, that’s a huge can of worms to unpack.

The thing about Boston that differs from most “major” cities is that a lot of its residents are from the area originally and returned there after school because the economy can support them. It’s a great smaller city and, if you hate it, you can move. If you stop trying to compare it to NY (which is like 10x the size of Boston), maybe you’ll enjoy it.
People always hate on Boston, but no one asked them for their opinion. 💁♂️
Hate is too strong a word. Mildly embarrassed for it is more like it.
Did you mean provincial? Because they are def provincial in my experience - that’s just New England culture in general, not just the gays.

Parochial and provincial mean basically the same thing.
