His push for “freedom of speech” will open back up the floodgates of harassment on twitter that the platfrom already struggles to adequately control. Only the worst actors have been banned and they’ll soon be back.
If freedom of speech was really this big of a concern, why did the alternatives fail? Because ultimately, the trolls and bigots don’t want their own space. They want to take everybody else’s space and make it theirs.
Causing public panic is why yelling Fire or Bomb is not covered. People can start stampeding and somebody gets hurt or dies from being trampled
A general belief that tech enabled “freedom of amplified speech” favors the lowest common denominator in society - and heralds the return to the yellow press vs. some constitutional originalist panacea.
He wants to make the algorithm open source which is a really good thing for society

Thanks for the share, really interesting take.
My guess is that a lot of people find comfort and security in believing the mainstream media agendas. Twitter offers a safe haven for them through censorship and Elon risks taking that away from them.
Do you really think he’s just out there “looking out for the greater good”?
https://www.businessinsider.com/the-20-biggest-landowners-in-america-2019-4?amp
Gates isn’t even in the top 20 of private landowners in the US (in fact he owns less than half the acreage of #20) but people don’t care about that because there aren’t fun conspiracy theories about those landowners
All this and Elon still won’t pick OP
It’s a question. Settle down pal
I am against it because I don’t think any one person should own the “town square”
And I agree with you

Rich man bad, that's why
Yes. Eat the rich
It also builds his political clout. Twitter is a political platform, perfect to achieve his bold ideas in accelerated time frames
Bold ideas = less taxes on the wealthy. Not much more to it
