Whenever I review Staff/Senior work, I usually wish they had been more “slow and deliberate” 🤦♂️
Someone telling me that as a staff was the best advice I've gotten. One senior, who was basically a manager, told me she rather me take more time and give her better quality work than give her work quickly.
I don’t understand it either. Maybe their brains just can’t grasp it. Idk 🤷🏻♀️
When I first started, I’d get flack because Seniors thought I spent soooo much time doing xyz things in Excel or even in Adobe PDF. I’m like “no, I just do abc and boom” and they looked at me like a deer in headlights. So one day I had them sit down at my desk and I showed them and they were shocked at how lighting fast I was at clicking around my screens, and they didn’t know about the things I was doing. Yeah, so stop giving me crap for “wasting time”... Just because you’re not capable of performing this work in x time, doesn’t mean I’m not. Skillz
I have a theory that people who played video games are fast at excel (not all ppl just a theory)
I think any type of video games - just the act of using buttons/controller. Also being good at algebra/problem solving helps with building formulas and models.

You'd prob think im slow too. I never learned shortcuts beyond the basic stuff and now I dont see the point really bc I just review. No longer have to spend hours preparing stuff so kinda doesn't matter
Shortcuts are for auditors. Speed comes from data science. Power query is where it's at.
we all have our strengths. Don't look down on the people who aren't as good as you. It may even be an opportunity to teach them how to do better
I think some people don’t care for change or improvement. I interned in industry and was told to manually go through some excel file from Europe and change the money amounts from commas to decimals and put the euro sign in a different column. They said it usually takes them weeks 100k+ rows) it took me 5 minutes to google and do it. As an intern I was excited to show them how to do it since I improved their process, they had no interest in learning how to save a week+ of time.
I mean, I could’ve shown them and they could just not tell the director that this task takes 5 minutes not 1-2 weeks. I guess there’s no guilt or fake working if you’re just ignorant to efficiency to begin with lol.
Hate? Am I not with the lingo of the times?
Gotcha, good good.
It comes down to how you were taught. I was exposed to data science in stats, calc, college courses, etc. It's also the desire to learn things that are expected of your generation. We all come in thinking we need to know this stuff and go look it up on google
