How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

Most jobs in the broader "business" realm don't have particularly high technical barriers to entry, so to speak. Most human beings can build a DCF, LBO, consulting pitch presentations, etc. with some training unlike engineers, doctors, etc. These jobs offer insane amounts of money for skills that can be easily developed, leading to huge competition. Prestige makes all the difference here

The work you do?
Okay but is it actually that different? Like I get tech implementation vs strategy but people doing the same strategy consulting at different firms have wildly different exit opps from what I can tell.
PE’s a bad example bc it’s even more hellbent on prestige than consulting. But yes, prestige and the work you’ve done.

Yea I’m doing the same work I’d be doing at MBB but not getting anywhere near the same exit opps. Been struggling to land an offer for 6 months now.
