Why are the governors soooooo much more impressive than the Presidential candidates? Can we have a national re-do here? Please?

Because people are more willing to vote across party lines for state politics than national politics based on the candidate most people find more qualified and relatable rather than party lines.

You have deep red states like Montana having a Democratic governor in Bullock and deep blue states like Maryland having a Republican governor in Hogan.

like

And for NC with a Democrat Roy Cooper in a red state. Although with all the Yankees moving down there in recent years, NC is increasingly becoming a swing state.

Our governor blocked off the garden section in stores that were already open and serving customers....

My governor is a sitting duck who waited for local municipalities to make moves and didn’t do a thing until he was left with no choice. Then he made empty promises in areas which are under his control and has done nothing to actually meet them. I blame myself for voting for him and now am looking forward to another Newsom recall initiative when we get through this... this time as a signature. There’s a reason his approval rating rivals Trump’s.

I give you Kemp.

He is my governor 😅🥴🙄😬... I will say, the sweeping “wow the south is so dumb!” Trope of why we “didn’t stop moving” that Michael Barbaro tweeted about is nonsense. Yes, in highly agricultural areas we need to tailor response/approach, undoubtedly. But by and large and statistically speaking ATL is 65% of the state’s population and has 4-5xs population density if anywhere else + a notoriously high percentage of citizens with sickle cell and asthma. It’s a gamble with their lives and the ultimate FU to our local mayor and his concept of “local control”

This is interesting! I’m not in love with either of these main hosts but The Weeds and 538 Politics both did reviews of studies explaining possible reasons why this may be the case last year. The prevalent TLDR being governors largely have more autonomy over D2D changes in life on a local, more immediate level. I’ll search for the links if anyone is interested.

Help me out, everyone seems to be having much milder symptoms with Omicron. Is the hospital capacity issue due to people panicking and going to the hospital despite having mild symptoms or because staff are out with illness? I don’t understand how the medical system is on the brink of collapse right now. Maybe I have a skewed view of Omicron based on anecdotal experience?

Finally convinced a family friend, who is 5 years from retiring, to invest his large sum of cash holdings into a a passive ETF (i.e., voo, spy, ivv, etc.). He has never invested in the stock market before because he didn't have any prior knowledge/fear, but is now worried inflation will eat away years of savings.
