I don’t have any experience in this, but do you have the option to go part time at your current firm? I assume not; but I think it’s probably hard to hire a lawyer part time… you aren’t available all the time so it’s hard to assign you matters. If I had the choice, I don’t think I would want a part time associate on my matter - I would probably end up picking up the slack. This isn’t as much of an issue for a legal secretary or paralegal. I know people go part time in big law but they already have established relationships with the firm and the people they work with.
