The money

For a few reasons:

1.) Banking/PE/Quant finance/Tech all pay more either on an absolute or $/hr adjusted basis, and 2/4 of those most people who got into McK could have gotten if they prioritized it
2.) Comp at McK at the junior levels is lower than BB/T2/some T3s
3.) I don’t know anyone who made it to partner solely solving for comp, if you don’t like what you do, a decade in this business is a hell of a climb.

So imo money is the wrong answer

In house counsel in big tech. 14 YOE. Junior manager of a small team. I've been advising senior leadership for some time and find myself more interested in business strategy than legal (or beyond legal). I also want to better understand organizational systems. I've seen continuing education business courses or legal leadership programs, but I'm wondering if an executive mba would be better. Time and cost are considerations. Anyone have experience here or programs you'd recommend? Am I crazy?

My glowing review, complete with the “it’s not a matter of ‘if’ you’ll make partner but ‘when’” line, resulted in a $4,000 salary increase. For the third year in a row.

I billed 200 more hours than last year and earned another certification. Now at $76k in a low to mid COL area. Top 25 firm.

Is it time to jump ship?

This is based on some conversations I've had with partners. Many have a story about some past negative event that spurs them on - being passed by for partner, a racist/sexist comment from a higher up, an ex telling them they wont suceed.

Mine is from an associate two years senior laughing and telling me I'd never be able to carve out my niche. Now, that niche is almost all I do. I think about his response whenever I feel demotivated.
