I just got an email from a recruiter from Google!
Omgomgomgomg
He said that the position is in the Bay Area or New York. I haven’t replied the email. I don’t think we can move to those cities, but I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Does anyone know if Google does remote jobs within US?

Completely agree with this. Seems that there is an element of politics driving that. Hospitals so short staffed that nurses are being asked to continue working even when they were knowingly exposed. Quarantine periods lessened so that businesses can stay up and running. Mask mandates lifted so politicians can earn back some trust from their right-leaning constituents. Not saying any of this is right or wrong, but I’m no longer convinced our leaders are making decisions based on science.
Science is never absolute, but policy is.
The nation (let alone people working in big tech seeing from this thread..) struggles to understand the nuances of science.
So if you want to understand the science, look into the data and scientific opinion, cross examine that with public policy being enacted and the confusion will simply disappear..

Because the numbers keep falling.
Omicron was extremely virulent, easy to catch even for those who were vaccinated or taking precautions. However, that actually worked in our favor because it pushed out other variants and boosted immunity. Most hospitals now have empty beds and positive cases keep falling. That doesn't mean that another variant might not appear and we could all still have to go back to precautions and boosters.
It definitely makes me question the motives of our so-called "health leaders".
Ok, but then why is Biden requesting that the national state of emergency be extended?

I think when omicron first hit they were hopeful it was less dangerous but they weren’t 100 percent sure. Now that we have more data, it is indeed much less severe, and if you are vaxxed it’s a flu like risk.
Thanks for the links. Eye opening.
Omicron is/was highly contagious and infected nearly everybody who wasn't vaccinated and many of those who were. It is still deadly, but the mortality rate is less than the previous variants. Due to its high virulence just about everybody got it, so now everybody has antibodies one way or the other (or they died). We reached herd immunity thanks to Omicron despite the anti-vaxxers. The overload at the hospitals is easing. While hospitals and healthcare workers would like to see precautions extended while they fully caught up and they got a much deserved break, policy makers are weighing this against restoring the economy, and restoring the economy has won. I plan to maintain certain precautions but look forward to more ease in travel. I will wear my face mask on airplanes for the rest of my life, I have really enjoyed not getting a cold or the flu every other flight. I hope that the increased vigilance in cleaning public spaces will not wane.
Good one! Except, we're going to need "theories" because most of the ones we had a year ago have already come true...
Maybe because most people are already over it and don’t care anymore. So the more the media sit here and try to push an abysmal narrative, the more they just look dumb. Now they need to save face.
What a foolish take
The lack of understanding of science is concerning in the comments.
Data shows that cases are rapidly dropping and policy is changing accordingly.
Science is ever changing. If you're truly perplexed or don't believe in the policy, then look into the data and science.
Midterms are coming.
Disagree. Follow the science. This is the right move.
I think Russia has put COVID on the backburner...
Amazing...
I'm beyond upset about this. It's way too soon to start lifting all the precautions! We're going to end up in another wave and right back where we started. I don't understand what the rush is all about!!!
I think it helps to understand the science behind policy.
If you're vaccinated and boosted, the chances of hospitalization and death are reduced by over 95%.
If you do get hospitalized, we have more tools now to attack the symptoms, reducing mortality rate by 91%.
Not understanding the science allows conspiracy to fester
I think the cases have been at bay.
Also the Omicron variant is less severe.
I agree! I honestly feel like people just started rebelling and refusing to follow the rules and people just shrugged their shoulders and went with it. Its like we have lost control TBH.
I was just thinking this!
