After watching succession it lowkey felt like it was written about the Ford family. Around the time I was watching the show I met bill ford at some event I help organize at the train station being rebuilt. Thought I was on the come up. Couple months later I was laid-off/fired ahah. Tax question for any Accenture people who were part of the layoffs in August...did you see anything weird with state withholding on your W2? I relocated from VA to NJ in early 2020 and my state withholding switched to NJ when I moved. However (and I never noticed this at the time), all of my earnings, including severance, paid out PTO, and COBRA true up, are shown as taxable income in both states. My tax accountant is scratching his head.

Does anyone else feel like their burn-out cycle is shorter? It used to take me about 2 years of grind before I hit a burn-out phase where I needed to do some serious recuperating. It feels like I'm at 3 months now, or even less. I've already spoken to my wife about building quarterly mini-vacations into my schedule just to keep my energy up. And by burn-out, I mean you're at the point that every single ball you are juggling can drop and you get fired and almost see that as a blessing.

We had new neighbors move in across the street a few months ago. A couple with a child of about 7 years old who clearly has a cognitive disability of some sort (I suspect autism). In these times, if your referral bonus is $1k or less for seasonal employees you are asking for: 1. Employees who put in work to refer people that end up negotiating a part time option don't work on referring anyone else. 2. If the potential new hire gets an offer, employees have 0 incentive to convince them to accept it. This can even lead to them giving negotiation tips which get the new hire a $5-10k higher offer. They may even recommend accepting a diff firm's offer straight up.
