Weird flex but ok.
(Just kidding - congrats on the move, it sounds awesome. Ignore the haters, life is too short for all that.)
I know 🤦🏾♂️but decided to focus on the salary bump and all the benefits first, then show my value and negotiate again by the end of the year
I want to add that the mentioned colleagues and I are at „consultant“ level. Meaning that there is really not a big incentive for us to stay unter such conditions when there are far better options out there. I m kinda thinking some people are willing to accept all the negative things just to brag with „I work for X consulting company“. Do you agree?

Couldn’t agree more.
I just landed here. I didn’t mean to.
Too dumb for IB, couldn’t afford law school
Brother/sister dont you ever say that about you again♥️ My take is that consulting can be a very toxic and manipulative environment. I have met so many smart kids and was surprised why they lack so much self-confidence. Then I ll witness how some partners and Managers will treat anyone below them 🙁
Some do it for the dream/hope or partnership. There are only an handful or two handfuls of people in traditional companies who make partner-level money (~ or >$1.5M) (this doesn’t necessarily hold true for start-ups or very high growth companies) and to get those jobs is not only about personal merits but also about succession planning (so you might be ready to be promoted but might have to wait 2/3 years because the person you are going to replace in the role needs to move)
To be fair, the overwhelming majority of consulting partners aren't making close to $1.5M. From the last data I'd seen a few years ago before I exited, the majority of partners across the industry top out in the $500k-$1M range. Definitely good money, but not the $1.5M that very few partners out there make.
Started in industry, became really bored after four years and made the jump. This is my 6th year and I still haven’t become bored.
That was one of the reasons I left my pre consulting job. But I guess the WLB was too bad and not sustainable. Also, I was just unlucky to be in the digitization field. Covid really did force many companies‘ digital transformation and my team really felt it through the crazy workload
This may be overly generous to myself, but I really think the primary factors for me were 1) interesting work, and 2) with smart people. Strong secondaries would be pay and prestige. Also, WLB has an element of luck, an element of expectations, and an element of personal work management / perfectionism - I have gotten lucky in staffing, I have probably had slightly different expectations than some of what good WLB looks like, and I'm not a raging perfectionist, so as a whole it's been pretty tolerable.
That being said, I've been here for ~18 months, so things could always change for the worse.
Did you move into sales?
before switching to consulting I had 4 years of experience in IT & Digital Transformation ( Digital Strategy, Implementation, etc). Did 18 months as consultant in the same field but the WLB was terrible. I mean I did expect to work more than the previous job. But after pulling 70-80hrs/week for 10 months straight, I said enough and started looking around.
I wanted to shop around different industries, get on some big projects, and stack my certs. So far so good, now just looking for that exit opp.
What’s your new gig?

Do you think your consulting experience had anything to do with your exit opportunity?
I might have to ask my new boss but I personally think NOT. I had 4 years of experience on a similar role pre consulting. But I will admit that „coming from consulting“ did give me more confidence for the salary request and negotiation.
Wait am I the only one who didn’t know companies give out cars? Why? Like Michael Scott with his company lease lol
My bad. Im based in Germany and it is quite common to have a company car in some senior roles. Even Consulting company (MBB) and T2/T3 all have car deals for their employees. I mean this is a car nation 😅
Tell them you’re looking down at their salary lol...just kidding. But in all seriousness, they probably just have too much pride/ego and are probably subconsciously jealous that your job will be easier while paying more. If you don’t believe me, try to figure out y’all’s hourly rates😁

That sounds great to me! I've been in industry and consulting, and I really made the move to consulting for career opportunities and travel, though it didn't hurt that it paid more than my industry job. The career opportunities I've gotten, the travel I've only somewhat gotten (this statement is not pandemic-related - I always traveled less than my friends in consulting), and I'm at an income level that would have been impossible if I had stayed at my prior industry job.
