Because there are such things as stupid questions, and who, when and where you ask also matter. As for utilization, it matters, no need to be 100% utilized and/or lose sleep over it when you are not, but you should be proactive to get to at least average and be comparable with your peer.

If you choose to listen to the one person who told you utilization does not matter at all, when the firm routinely communicate utilization expectations, that’s on you. When people say utilization doesn’t matter, it usually means it doesn’t make much of a difference when it comes to performance ratings as a new staff, and it also means being a bit short of your utilization goal is not the end of the world. It doesn’t mean that you should completely disregard utilization (or the firm’s expectations that you should work).

The people who tell people not to be afraid to ask questions are often not the people being volunteered to answer questions lol.
Not performing well definitely always matters. It’s just that expectations for work quality are ideally adjusted for the seniority level.

You might reconsider how you frame questions. My best juniors ask a lot of questions, and my worst ones do, also. The way they ask the questions is incredibly different. If it’s something you can easily google, I won’t appreciate the question. Other questions show that the person is truly thinking about the process and improving.
