To avoid having to pay and train someone right out of law school who doesn’t really want to do the work or who will just end up hating the job anyway and leaving in 2 years before the firm really makes any money on them. Hire/steal a 3-5 year lawyer is the model. Pretty much anyone will do. They aren’t jaded yet, will buy into the system, are still hungry so they’ll bill a lot, and they’re much much cheaper than a senior lawyer.

Advice requested: When you were a legal intern or a summer, what type of projects did you like best? What was most helpful to you when you received a new assignment? Anything you wish your mentor did/didn’t do? I’m working with my first ever intern and trying to structure projects so they know that the work is important and relevant to the business, and why, and to provide enough background info on the area of law so they don’t spin wheels on the basics. What else should I be doing?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I really want to make a change. Thank you!
