Why do people get upset when people are unwilling to work in public accounting? We all know it’s a grind and long hours and some people are ok with it and some aren’t. Both sides get to make their own choices, employers offer what they are willing to pay along with their expectations and employees accept what they are willing to get paid based on their expectations of the job. Is it not that simple?

Because society has trained people to always be “right” and to not allow outside opinions or to even consider someone with a differing opinion is also “right.”

The easiest place to see this is any work from home debate.

What do you mean by unwilling to work? As in they have a job in PA but don’t want to do it?

Congrats! I totally understand the dilemma, my wife and I were fortunate that we both are frugal and saved money before we had kids so my wife could be a stay at home mom. She is a physical therapist so her job is high in demand and also it allows her to work per diem if she wants to for additional income or to feel productive. If you’re like most people, your fear is that you can’t provide for your family and yourself. If that’s the case then, if you have 6-12 months of living expenses it gives you comfort that you have 6-12 months to look for a job, if you have a good network someone can vouch for you or even give you temporary work, if you’re constantly learning and upskilling then you are valuable to the economy and not just the firm you were at. If you can also start a side hustle, that would be even better because now you know how to create your own job. Having 6-12 months of living expenses, being in a high demand field and having a good network should give anyone the confidence to not be fearful of not being able to provide for your family or yourself. Also I’ve been let go/fired a few times and it gets easier since I’m prepared and have gotten jobs fairly quickly. Good luck and congrats again!

We made it to the weekend, HR fam! Or in my case, barely made it 😂😬. What are you doing to take care of yourself this weekend? I’ll go first: quiet evening with my husband tonight - may visit a brewery. Then some much needed time in nature tomorrow. We carry heavy burdens for our orgs, often without having a safe place to share our own burdens. I’m cheering all of you on as you make work better every day ❤️

Foreign-trained CPA looking to eventually get a tax position in the midwest or south US (MO, AR, TX). I have acceptance letters to study for the online MTax at Denver and online MSL at Boston and NYU with the latter being most expensive.

This is all out of my own pocket. Does the NYU name on the resume justify the higher price tag of that degree? Anything else I should consider when deciding between these options? Thanks
