Why do recruiters ghost their candidates? They have you go through testing and then just radio silence. Why is this?

I've yet encountered an outside recruiter actually help me find a job. For me, they just don't seem to be much help. I've been ghosted by a few internal recruiters too, and that's even worse. A simple email telling people they aren't moving forward is all it really takes. Right now, the market is saturated with people looking, and it seems professionalism, otlr even common courtesy, has gone by the wayside.

For ones that require me to do work, I just pass. One reached out and they had HOURS worth of testing before they'd talk. It was a hard pass because I'm not "working" for free.

They are just bad recruiters who aren't interested in helping people who actually need help but rather just want to focus on 'lucrative' clients to pump up their numbers. Terrible practice.

It seems that there is a wide gap in the quality of recruiters. Some are awesome and will get you interviews at several firms while others will ghost you

like

I noticed the recruiters didn't bother to answer this question.

Sorry, I see some did respond. My mistake.

I have been lucky with the recruiters I worked with. 4 of them got me interviews with firms that resulted in job offers. I have been working with one since 2006, and he and his firm have placed me 3 times including the current firm I am with.

If you’re in the Greater Los Angeles area, it’s D3 Search. LinkedIn is great place to find them.

Recruiters have a specific profile in mind for each position, and sometimes, even if you're qualified, you might not be the perfect match. In these cases, it's easier for them to ghost than deliver a potentially harsh rejection. Rejecting is just as hard on us.

Yet recruiters leave the candidates with no response, no update and the candidates emails are going unanswered. All we ask for is simple curiosity, or feedback.

What's the best course of action when you find yourself at a job that's far more chaotic than you assessed while interviewing? None of this showed up in my research of the company or my interviews.
