Agree with the concept of respecting other’s actions/opinions. But it would be hard for it not to drive a wedge in a relationship when a vaccinated person (understandably) doesn’t want to be around unvaccinated people (at least not inside and at least not without a mask). There have been lots of posts with real life examples of these difficult decisions, generally involving family and close friends.
I definitely get where you’re coming from but honestly it seems like most of the hate/disrespect from both sides happens on social media/behind a screen. Even in this post, there’s people arguing on both sides. My point is we are judging people by one single choice instead of looking at them as a whole.. what if someone on the other side has so many other things in common with you? why is covid the reason you decide to dismiss a relationship with said person.
I think this is a huge subsection of the population because you only see them on the internet and not in real life. I’ve actually never encountered people screaming over masks since the pandemic has started
Me neither!
FYI- cancel culture is a myth. The term started being used shortly after Harvey Weinstein was held to account for objectively criminal behavior. It’s then been applied to all manner of issues where someone is seeking to avoid accountability.
Vaccines are more effective when over 80% of the population is vaccinated, so unfortunately there is a stake in whether people make a decision not to be vaccinated due to a medical concern vs. a distrust of science. Additionally, as restrictions are lifted, they are specifically being lifted for people who are vaccinated. If you chose not to get vaccinated you need to continue to abide by the restrictions around wearing masks or entering certain enclosed spaces like restaurants. Unfortunately, it’s extremely angering to read of people choosing not to be vaccinated and then being dishonest about their status and placing the health of others at risk because of a misplaced sense of entitlement.
IBM- this is a strange response and an example of taking guidance out of context to support a position. I’m not a child (and presumably you aren’t either). My previous statement was if it was up to me everyone would get vaccinated except in cases of medical necessity. Your response is about children being vaccinated, which is not relevant to my original point.

Because not every opinion is equally valid. If I like to drive drunk and justify it by saying others should just wear a seat belt, that doesn't make me an independent thinker it makes me a jerk. And people who act like jerks typically find themselves getting wedged apart from others in their lives.

Ya’ll cannot be serious. 1. Overweight and sedentary people are still people! 2. The virus kills healthy people too, unless you are vaccinated.
Pro
I agree with you but immunocompromised people that are vaccinated are still told to act like they are not because the vaccine may not have worked because of the immunosuppressants they are on. If you didn’t get the vaccine and still wear a mask- fine . If you post your opinion about why others shouldn’t get it and don’t wear a mask when you’re suppose to then i think that’s crossing a line.

Not this again
Completely agree. People have lost their minds and are totally ignorant
At this point in the pandemic this should be over with. I think people still feel like there’s a shot at herd immunity and therefore hold others to account for getting the vax. That’s out the window clearly since we have a number of idiots who won’t. That’s on them though and since I’m vaccinated I don’t care. People need to get to the point again where they don’t care about what others do. And that goes for everything not just covid.
We only need a handful of us to keep humanity going. We can go without the idiots.
I agree. At this stage it’s either get vaccinated and be around whoever you want or if you don’t get vaccinated then so be it. I’m not getting the vaccine and then wearing a mask just for the sake of random people who may or may not have gotten it.

Its only pro mandatory vaxxers that insist on fighting with people over injection status. Nobody else cares.
Pro
Mostly everyone thinks driving drunk is a terrible practice though, including many of those who engage in driving drunk.
Only people who are for mandatory injections make a big deal about people who do not want to be injected or are undecided. I personally don’t care if you are vaccinated or not
I think it’s “internet culture” not cancel culture. The way information is fed through algorithms and siloed. Everyone hides behind a screen and don’t know how to have face to face convos. Also they’ve never been punched in the face and humbled.
So sad this is where we are as a culture now.
We really do live in a society
You know it’s so interesting.. most people in the US grew up with the notion of valuing the individual.. we’ve never done anything for anyone else, it’s always been for ourselves/our family. It wasn’t until covid where we expected people to do something for their neighbor.. and now we’re hurt that they won’t do something for community..
No, I don’t have a perception of what history should be, what’s the point of that? I do understand that there are examples where we’ve had to work together and I agree with EY2 - i’ve seen great acts of community service before but western cultures do value independence and individualistic behaviors. Perhaps, i misspoke when I said it never happens, that was my mistake. But more times than not, we care about our own successes and failures more than someone else’s. If we cared about each other as much as we care about ourselves, would the argument of vaxx vs covid anti-vaxx be a conversation 1.5 years later? Would the vaxxers have to bash the anti-vaxxers if they tried to see it from their point of view? I think the US is having a harder time rallying everyone to get the vaccine because of the individual looking out for themselves.
