People like to vent, which this app is primed for. I love my job, love what I do, the skills I build, etc. does that mean I love every single aspect every single day? No. Fishbowl is the community outlet - not many people have friends/family who understand the frustrations of our jobs so it’s easiest to dump here.
In all honesty I feel like that’s a lot of people in a lot of professions - we just don’t hear about it.
It's like the people with good customer service never leave reviews but once you have bad customer service you post on any platform for everyone to see
Lack of transferable hands-on skills to industry, fear of taking a comp hit to change, lack of courage to make a substantial career change, addiction to points and expense accounts.
tl;dr
We are whores

It’s kind of like getting addicted in an abusive cycle: you get in, kind of enjoy some parts of it but hate others. You start to get it & get a rush from it. Eventually you become immune to the bad parts and don’t know how to live without this go, go, go lifestyle and soon enough you realize you’re in too deep.
Getting out becomes scarier than staying in and voila you’re a MD.
So Stockholm syndrome?
You an analyst?
My thinking exactly. Or a partner who thinks we should be grateful :)
We are all whores
People like to complain.
for me it’s because I moved to consulting from industry at age 45 for nice 60% salary increase and now in 7th year so seems like I just need to gut it out 3 more years. 55 = 2 pensions all be them modest so I can go work at a local bakery
Money
I am good at this job but I feel my time is wasted in this position and I’m not reaching my full potential. The reason why I’m still here is that on a work visa, I almost have no leverage to leave because very few other industries are sponsoring; save for a few tech firms. Even then, the skills I have from consulting are not entirely suited for tech. While executing my long term plan, which make take years, it gives me some comfort complaining about the job
P1 ... exactly. Some days I feel like if I stop and slow down for a week I’d never be able to be at peak performance again.
“A million girls would kill for this job” -devil wears Prada. Still doesn’t mean we won’t complain haha
Prestige
It’s not funny anymore man leave us alone
Might just be me but I like the consulting lifestyle and most of my colleagues, don’t like the work load or stress though. I take work home all the time and even when I’m not working, I find my brain subconsciously worrying about things I may have missed. Not sure if the pay I get is good for the actual hours I spend.
It's just until I find a real job
I enjoy my job! It checks a lot of boxes in terms of interesting work, great colleagues, pay & perks, prestige, etc. and I recognize that I’m in a fortunate position
Even so, it’s nice to have an avenue to complain, relate, and ask questions when needed! 😛
Golden handcuffs. 👐🏻
Salary plain and simple
