Lol, enjoy the free time while you can. At this point in your career it is not indicative of inadequate performance
I sincerely doubt it’s because of your intern performance because if people had negative perceptions from that why would they have hired you? This is a totally normal thing to go through when you first start, logistically it can take a little while to sort out how to utilize people when you have a bunch of new hires start at once. Keep on top of it with your counselor and keep reaching out, but take advantage of the slow time to study for any certifications (CPA, CISA, etc.) that you’ll need down the line and won’t have time to study for later. I was super slow the beginning of my staff 1 year so sat for my exams and the study time was such a blessing.
Ah the sparkle in your eye when you now start :) don't overthink it too much, many of us had little to no work for a week or more when we now started. It is not reflective of you, scheduling just takes times. Focus on your CPA if not done already, your first year is the easiest year to get it done
Was thinking it might be indicative of inadequate personality lmao
Thank you for that positive reinforcement!
I was unassigned for a month and half when I first started and ended up getting early promoted. Don't worry your first year... it's staffing related not your performance.
Networking is so key early on, shake as many hands as you can, have as many thoughtful conversations as you can. Once you've acquired some project experience, share your internal resume with people who matter that control engagements you want to be on.
You'll be surprised what being proactive will do for you. Simply put, it differentiates you from the pack.
My first year it was purely based on alphabetical order. Once you’ve worked with someone and demonstrated you’re not an idiot just tell them you’re very free and keen to be booked on their other jobs
Enjoy the down time. The season is just beginning, your schedule will be populated with lots of work soon. Study for the CPA if you haven’t already passed it.
Don't worry fam. If you're tax DSG is because our system is flawed and resourcing is horrible.
Internship? Maybe I didn’t network enough? Maybe it’s just a matter of luck? What/how should I think about this? Note that I’ve already reached out to senior managers I worked with during the internship to offer additional manpower on their engagements and all that.
