At some companies, the most well liked people will getter a better review/ early promotion/ etc than someone who works as hard or harder but isn’t as well liked

Ego needs to be fed. Its how we are built.
But, it fades!
By 50 you really don’t care much!

At 50??? Hahaha hell no more like 28 ..

Belonging is a core human need. It’s biological and we have a better survival rate if accepted by the group. The problem isn’t in caring what other people think, it’s that the majority of people are judgy and think it’s okay to cast people out.

like

No man is an island.

Our character and personality is built off our interactions with people in our lives. I think it's healthy and necessary to care about what others think about us. What we have to mind is who the "others" our and evaluate why and how much of their opinion matters to us.

like

The older I get the less I care.

Because we live under the illusion that they are

like

Most people are culturally taught to derive their self worth from external evaluations. That’s why new parents are now being told not to use evaluative language with kids

Because we are taught as kids to act a certain way and we will be rewarded. If not, you will be punished.

Because we think that pleasing people gets us ahead in life and we change our lives based on what others think and feel. It’s living in torture

Whoever said employers don’t care about grades and transcripts after your first job was a liar. Every lateral position that I’ve applied to as a 3rd year has requested transcripts. Why do we lie and tell grads that employers don’t check transcripts when they do. My coworker, a 5th yr, had to submit his transcripts also to lateral job. Side note - it speaks volume when multiple associates are trying to lateral at the same time
