I definitely make more $$. agency side than I did client side. It’s a myth that the money is always better. I’m having more fun - client side sucked the life out of me. The politics are also easier to navigate agency side.

like

True. In my case the hours were fine, but the 8:30-4:30 days literally sucked the life out of me.

Because these experiences are not universal and there is no hard and fast rule that brand side is “better.”

This.

I ask myself these questions all the time. Nothing’s keeping me in advertising as much as I feel a little stuck? I think account people are super lucky in the lateral mobility we have but a lot of client-side hiring folks have little to no understanding of why agency roles entail so I do find getting interviews more challenging (that might just be me though??)

likehelpful

Agree. I see more creative people going in house easily but as an account person I’m like 😵‍💫 where to begin

If you’re a creative who enjoys conceptual work and creating campaigns, stay in advertising. If you want a work-life balance where life outweighs work, and all you do is create promotional email blasts and company social posts, go client side. I’m the former stuck in the latter.

like

I’ve found that specifically creative strategy/account planning is practically nonexistent client-side. It’s hard to not be pigeonholed into a project manager or research-only consumer insights type role.

Just wanted to start off the day by saying - I work with almost only women on my project, and I love every single one of them. They are the most supportive, kind, brilliant, and encouraging individuals and I feel so blessed and lucky to be working with them. Hello 🐠, I have been on a project that I do not like, has absolutely obliterated my work life balance, and put me under a lot of stress. Not to say this doesn’t happen a lot in our job, but I have an opportunity to go back to an old client that I loved. My current project leadership knows the date I’m set to roll off, but have been hinting they won’t let me leave because I’m good at my job. I am so desperate to leave and have been advised by multiple colleagues to do so. What do I do??

I received an offer from a quant fund. My offer letter doesn’t explicitly state my role/position, it is nyc based, and that it’s full time. It also doesn’t provide benefits breakdown, just a blanket statement that I’m eligible. I’ve spoken to the recruiter about these items, but general response is that this is standard for the company. To me this is all very strange and I feel it should be defined more. Does this sound normal to others? Can’t tell if i should push on this more or leave it.
