For the same reason it is so hard to get a date with the most popular girl in school. High demand often means greater selectivity and more competition among applicants.

Haha, great answer. I second that. Everyone wants the pretty girl

A friend of mine just got a job at Google and she loves it. It was worth the one year of rejections and 8-hour interview she had to go through. Guess that's why they're so in-demand

DA1 said it best! There is extremely high demand to work in FAANG, so they are able to set strict criteria in order for them to onboard "the best" in the industry

Too much competition for the jobs. Also, the companies have very specific expectations because they know they can.

Sometimes it is. It's either total luck or absolutely the right contact. In my case, I've been hired 2 times, interviewed 3times, I declined the offer for the other one because of low CTC. But leaving this aside, I've helped refer close to 30-40 people according to their best skills and still nobody even got an interview scheduled, and here me got interviewed thrice and got salary discussion done too. So it all depends.

I think we all have it in our heads that FAANG is the only way - and that drives up competition. You want everyone to recognize where you work immediately, you want them to be impressed etc. I generally think a lot of these companies are overrated, but the brand name and CV clout is enough to drive up demand for them

In my experience, if you're switching from a service based company it will require a lot of luck to even get a call back. It doesn't matter how talented you are, getting a call back is still the hardest part of the interview for a service based guy

Do any of you at EY ever have issues actually taking your vacation? Given we work with people across regions on multiple projects at once, who do you ask for approval for longer vacations? I feel like I usually just add it in ARMS and tell people I won’t be there X days. Rarely do I ever get pushback (but rarely do I ever take all my vacation days)

I met up with a couple of my closest friends and all they talked about was wanting to date and find a boyfriend, which there is nothing wrong with but they see me as the strange one becos I'm not interested. I'm so sick of hearing "but don't you want somebody that will do XYZ for you" 🥴 I just wanted to vent ☹

I’m sure this won’t come across well but I have to say it… my husband and I make good money (about $600k combined) and are grateful for it but these Biden tax increases are going to kill us. The truly rich don’t get hit hard meanwhile it sucks to be an upper middle class family. No matter how much I make somehow my take home seems to keep going down.
