Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.
Can we cut down on this WWIII hype already?
Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Or PMO on a tech implementation at a bank for a year 😐

It was more tongue in cheek. Even PMO isn’t too bad, and there was still massive impact and learning for me (lead a combined ACN/IBM/client project team of ~20 people as a C). And yes, I’m a generalist.
You know the Bluetooth Covid Tracker apps were made by Google and Apple collaborating right? You know the world's information and media is organize by FAANGs right? You know leading AI is developed at FAANG right? You know they actually do real work and build solutions used by billions of people and not just circle jerking on slide decks right?
I think my time in consulting was a great accelerator for my career and gave me perspective on executive prioritise and decision making but ultimately life at a FAANG and your actual impact is clearly better here

Does impactful work beat money? No. No it doesn't. If I'm making 250 plus stock options etc..... With good work life balance, I'm happy. I can do impactful things on my off hours if I so choose
Yea I don't really get it either. Especially considering most of those jobs require you to move to Seattle or the Bay Area, where cost of living is going to eat away at most or all of that compensation. I'd rather make 200k at a F500 in a T2 city than 250k in the Bay Area. I'm sure there are more interesting roles and better perks, but I don't think the difference is that pronounced if you're just going into some run of the mill bizops role

It was never the intended goal or a foreseeable side effect. Knowing the potential consequences and still pushing forward regardless of who the solution would hurt is something else
This whole thread is a generalization. I’ve done incredibly meaningful work at McK (USAID, NYC COVID response, etc) and have PM friends at FAANG who got stuck on a product that the company already killed but one big client still used it so they have to support the legacy software even though it’s defunct. So there are high and low impact projects in both worlds - it’s more about the project IMO than the company!

Just a note here, I'm not trying to be confrontational, just generally curious what all services NYC received from consultants to help with COVID. It's pretty cool to see the impact we can make as an industry.
Do both and while you are at it, throw Goldman in the mix too. Gotta catch em all!
Just for awareness, you call out Gates Foundation which was started by the co-founder of Microsoft. Also if you look at FAAMG, almost all of them crushed their numbers in the last 8 months because of the impact of WFH and the response to Covid. Pretty much all of the projects in the space require those companies to complete the projects
C1 Well Netflix didn’t really help WFH and responding to Covid but Microsoft (along with Amazon, Apple and GCP) did which is why I changed it. Even Facebook with Facebook for Work. But there currently isn’t a Netflix for work.....

Same reason you put MBB on a pedestal compared to other consulting firms. Better pay.

In tech your impact is pretty tangible. Buy X solution, solve Y problem. Strategic recommendations are nice and all, but how many times are clients actually executing on it well without external help? Also you don’t really know if the strategy will work until it does.
FAANG also earns like 2-4x the revenue per employee vs MBB. That means almost unlimited resources for thousands of people to live very well (relative WLB + 💰) even at the lower ranks and save life-changing amounts of money. Less emphasis on pedigree and more on if you can do the work. That kind of culture sounds pretty meaningful to me.
Twilio is powering New York’s contact tracing initiative. That’s just one example. WTF are you talking about??!

MBB you make slides for people doing meaningful work
Pls fix
I doubt the average MBB project is as impactful as you think. Expensive, sure, but often not impactful.
How much impact did your slides directly have??

“Industry defining project” — examples? Sounds hyperbolic. Consulting doesn’t define industries, it works within already established ones
