I wear one when I workout my legs because I have lower back problems
Lower the weight, focus on movement patterns, find the weakness that is contributing to lower back problems. Wearing a weight belt for back issues without addressing the root cause could make it worse down the line
I’m of the opinion that, unless you are 1) a powerlifter looking to develop competition-level lifts or 2) carrying injuries and have been recommended it by a physical therapist, there is absolutely no reason to ever wear a workout belt. If you have a weak core, take the time to build it up. Using the belt will just lead to even more imbalance and possibly injury due to the unnatural way you’re working your muscles.
This is dependent on the weight you’re talking about though, too
Hey. Personal trainer here. You should be wearing a belt for deadlifts and squats > 85% of your 1RM.
Sort of. Certified but not currently active. Was active before starting at Deloitte.
my core is every week tyvm
Belts actually activate your core more
Yeah, find that so many people do not properly know how to use a belt. D1 is absolutely correct that it should be when you are moving heavy (relative) weight and need to brace your core. People wearing it when curling and using machines make zero sense. If you need help bracing your core when lifting <75-80% of your 1RM, you need to work on your core strength and technique more.
