Why does it seem impossible to work with media? OMD literally sits in our office and I find that they go out of their way to be unhelpful or kill ideas that even hint at a new way to use media.

From my experience in media, we're often given ideas from the creative agency that are cool, but they're unrealistic to the actual budget we have or just wouldn't have any real reach or impact. We strive to make cool media, but it has to be within the bounds of what we're working with.

Agreed. Some Creative agencies come up with “cool” ideas that reach 3 people and eats 3/4 of the budget but they’re cool so who cares. Media agencies are held to the standard of reaching more than 3 people ideally so yeah, there might be a disconnect. The better solution might be to work within the current budget constraints to come up with the “cool” idea.

I was talking to someone else today at OMD about a really cool podcast media buy idea and they literally said they didn't know how to do it and were complaining about how long it would take to figure it out so we should just not do it. I wanted to scream. I looked at this person and said, so you don't want to make good work then?

Oh dear God have worked with OMD in the past and they are by far the laziest, most negative do-nothing hacks in the world. You present amazing ideas to the client that you have shared with them along the way, and then in the final meeting, on the phone in front of everybody, they will 180 and say why the idea will not work or that they never saw it. Words cannot describe how destructive to great work/effort they are.

I literally overheard one of their directors telling his team not to waste time working with us because it wasn't worth it. WTF.

Even internal media departments can be hard to work with. Mostly because the job is relatively plug and play 96% of the time. If you have an idea and want media to help make it happen it takes an inordinate amount of work to do it. But, I’ve found, once you’ve involved them in something cool and they get invested in it and wake up from the status quo. And the next project you work with then on they bring slightly fresher thinking because they’ve seen what can be done with an iota of giving a fuck.

I’ve always found them to be collaborative and willing, easy to get in touch with and open to... Wait what they sit in our office?!!

Who are the good media agencies to work with? I’ve never had much luck. Mullen media hub has made some decent work. Are they good partners?

In my experience, OMD is worse than other media teams I’ve worked with

@Carat, still doesn't explain why OMD sells in a media buy that doesn't make sense for the creative, or why we get deliverables 3 days before they need to ship, or why they waited too long to buy a unit for our lauch date and lost it. I don't know what other media agencies are like, but OMD sucks.

There's no problem OMD believes can't be solved by a client buying their own brand name on Google.
