London Biglaw: heard layoffs are happening and/or imminent. In a team meeting we got the usual shill about no promises for the next year. Needless to say, the question of the day has gone from “how much is my bonus” to “will I be around here next year”. What’s the sitch like for everyone?

I have offer from BNY Mellon for K grade and credit Suisse for AVP position for business analyst profile . Which one should I Join. Two factors for consideration : Credit Suisse is currently in a big mess due to negative 2Q results. BNY has one instance of layoffs in 2019. Though connected with many BNY employees and they told me it was one time instance due to wrong decision by CEO and that CEO is no longer with BNY. Please suggest

I heard from my head that there is a lot of slowdown in VW Germany... There is Hiring freeze, level freeze and all ... And soon that will spillover to india. We are very leanly staffed and I have a principle role in many transactions as sole associate which makes it more challenging, to both cope and take space.

After clerking, my BF recently accepted an offer from and joined a V50 firm (been there a few weeks). Shortly before his start date, he heard back from a V5 firm (one he’s wanted to join for a while) and just got an even better offer. Practice groups at each firm are also different.

The office he joined for the V50 firm is in City A. The office for the V5 firm is in City B (where V50 firm also has an office).

How should he break the news to the V50 firm to minimize reputational risk, etc.?
