I know this isn’t a common sentiment on fishbowl, but I really enjoy this job. We’re working with pretty senior executives, I get to move to a different topic every 3mo, I have a clear path up a pretty rewarding career ladder - had I gone the industry route, it would have taken me ~20yrs to be in the same room as a lot of these people, and even then it’s not a guarantee I would make it that far.

EY/B/K that is a dated assumption, especially if you're in front office. I'm an F500 leader in strategy and we rocket the best /brightest up through the org with tons of visibility - comp, tuition assistance, leadership opps... It's all a matter of getting on the right list with the right sponsors. However, if we're talking about admin functions consulting is the fastest and easiest way to accelerate.
I’m good at it and it pays decently.
Happy clients. Increased levels of responsibility. Positive feedback from superiors. Promotions.
Typical ways you would measure success in any job.
I’ve explored several options 💁🏻♀️
My biglaw friends hit ceilings and mostly left for in house for less money. I make more money now and I have a higher income trajectory. I didn’t pay for law school. Got this job with my undergrad BBA in accounting from a b school.
Should I switch to industry, my ceiling is c suite and my biglaw friends’ ceilings are typically lower.
My biglaw IB PE friends all worked more brutal hours than I did. I simply won’t do that kind of hours. I need to enjoy life. Because I had a long track record of high performance, Deloitte was there for me when my life hit a major storm.
I was never into the finance major type of math. I don’t think I would have come out of IB well because I don’t trust myself with drugs. I know my limits.
My VC friends are… for high risk and high returns. I have a pretty low risk tolerance.
I love Deloitte and will happily continue to drink my Green Dot koolaid 🥃🍾 excited to go to Deloitte University next month 🥂
I’ve been doing this for 12 years 💕💕💕 The partners that I reported to spoke future into me when I almost left three times for a lot more money short term. Ranging from 35% to 110% more comp. Looking back, leaving would have put me in a far worse position 0-3 years out. Thank you Joe U Kathy Dan and all of my bosses!
Per hour worked, I find it hard to believe many other jobs pay me this much.
For my group and me personally, I have amazing WLB, flexiblity, and autonomy. I’m right below Deloitte salary bands as well. I’ve heard experiences differ drastically through different groups.
Can’t move to industry .. still trying.

It is less painful than the alternative. (Thus far.)

No better offers outside of consulting yet.
I regularly ask myself 3 questions and as long as yes is the answer to at least 2 of them I stay:
1. Am I enjoying what I’m doing?
2. Am I learning?
3. I am being paid well enough?
Also to be honest I looked at alternative jobs in my town and they were director level for the same pay as my current manager role.
This should be on a recruiting website lol.
I agree with all these points. Consulting, prior to COVID, allowed me to travel to awesome projects cities (I was very lucky, some get terrible cities) and also take a ton of time off to travel personally (usually on international business / high end hotels with points / miles). Hit 50 countries so far. Good WLB. Interesting projects. Everyone’s experience is different, I am lucky, but have created a good niche.

I find tech consulting fun in the sense that I start from scratch, go through a controlled process (which I get better at with each repetition) and there is an end product which gives me a sense of accomplishment.... Then start over.
This is also why I would never want to go AMS 🙈
The lack of having to work with the same people and politics for more that 6-10 months is another plus. People, problems and drama switches up before too long. I can get away from the "familiarity breeds contempt" situation because of this.
Finally the pay of course. Helps to fund other fun stuff I life at a quicker pace than other jobs. Therefore I can have more fun when I'm younger.
