Hi everyone, I am 4.9 years experienced , I joined Fractal 3 months ago as a data engineer, but still haven't got any project. Process is so slow that I have received only 4 to 5 project calls. I switched in hopes that will learn the new tech and tools. But now i am starting to forget even the one i knew. Should i go for change or wait a little more time as fractal is reputed in AI/ML? I have interview lined up with Impetus as for now. Would it be better choice?

Is it? I haven't tried but always got the impression it wasn't.
I didn't find it that hard.
Maybe you're aiming too high?
I did it a few years ago and realized a few things. Getting into leadership levels at industry is tough. Also on consulting there isn't a limit to how many consultants can grand become SMs or directors or Partners. However in Industry, it is typically a game of chess. Typically the roles are limited and one position vacates, people all around in that organization make the moves. Like a jigsaw puzzle..most open positions are filled internally and if not then it is posted externally. Even there, 80% positions are filled through networking. So if you are applying blindly, the chances are pretty slim.

If you're trying for a lateral level, it should be manageable
Well is it harder to go from consulting to industry or industry to consulting then?

The nuance mentioned above is important but in most cases it's harder to go from industry to consulting.
I agree industry only wants internal people while consulting pays a premium for non internal
I always got the sense that consulting was diagonal up on the way out and diagonal down on the way in. Basing this on what I've seen with peers leaving to higher positions and industry folks coming in lower and having to prove themselves.
Shouldn't be too difficult to exit into industry unless industry has had its downs with consultants and currently hire freeze for just consultants. I'm in industry and heard a department from my company will not hire consultants due to the poor experience with them.
Another company I know has stopped hiring inhouse and only hiring consultants because they've hired everyone from competitors and done with inhouse thus looking for consultants.
It really just depends.
It’s also tougher from ibm. I moved from ibm gbs to tech strategy and it took me 7 months to get out. I had maybe 65 first round calls? Keep pushing!!
I mean what real skills can we contribute, outside of ppt
Analytical thinking, ability to look at the big picture, decompose it into tactical and logical execution steps and building data driven insights. That is what industry will appreciate from a consultant l. Other than subject matter expertise if you have that
