Most airlines do apply status to anyone booked on the same reservation/record locator as the status traveler, even if they are unrelated to the traveler (e.g., a friend instead of family). But for better or worse, I've never seen it apply to an independent booking or when not traveling together. Some airlines do have "shared" FF programs - Lufthansa at least used to - but I think that mainly just allowed miles pooling and status still followed the individual.
How is BCG's point any different than everyone else's? We all saying the same thing: if they travel with you, then great. If they are on their own, then they have absolutely no claim to your status. Nor should they.
Cause your kid isn't you?
Your kid has no business absorbing your status if you aren't on the flight with them. This isn't a family share plan. You are making the firm look bad.
You shouldn't have cut the umbilical cord
I'm a vehement defender of kids on planes and in 1st. Disagree with you here OP. Delays suck, and airlines should be conscious of minors in general (unaccompanied or not). Doesn't mean that they should get the benefit of your status though. That dilutes the programs for the for everyone's who's earned it.
"Kid is flying internationally." My kid is gonna be happy enough that I paid for his/her international vacation, teach your kids to recognize their privilege and appreciate what they have
OP you sound so incredibly entitled holy shit
What a stupid question/statement.
Op must be a high maintenance brat!
Because your grammar is horrible
Our viewpoint carries more weight
Because the kid didn't earn it, you did.
You type like a high schooler, that kind of takes away from any legitimate claim you may or may not have
Look at all of these haters... There is a fishbowl hell for you all mwuahahahaha
I think this is totally valid. I would want my child to travel in comfort and not be degraded to commercial peasantry. One way around it is to just make kiddo an authorized user on an AmEx with the perks.
Thanks everyone else for sympathizing and coming up with great suggestions. When your kid is flying internationally and stuck in the airport for 5 hours you will start thinking differently but how ethical this to think that your status should apply to the family is a topic for a larger debate. Peace
If you want your kid to use the first class lounge, use dollars to buy them a membership.
I always feel that way about my wife and kid traveling without me and not being able to use the lounge when I'm not there, or not getting to use Hertz gold. Status and memberships should xfer to family, dangit
The airlines suck that way.
Delta does
