Why is New York parading around like it did a good job with the Coronavirus? It didn’t.

I think New York has done a much better job than the entirety of the country. We’re the only ones who have successfully flattened the curve. In regards to the appallingly high death count and cases, those happened at the very beginning of the pandemic when (a) no one knew the best course of action to follow and (b) being the most densely populated city it was incredibly difficult to take necessary steps in a timely fashion

likehelpful

But the course of action certainly should not have been to put infected seniors BACK into nursing homes. I think we knew from the beginning that doing so was a ticking time bomb, and Cuomo made that call.

I agree with the responses here- we were the first one to get hit really bad but we did recover. I think the phased approach for re-opening has been working, saving us from being another case of CA. But what grinds my gear the most is when I see people without masks! Like how hard is this? Did you forget what happened here two months ago?

I don’t get what’s so hard to understand about this. Total population of an area vs COVID deaths only tells half the story. Population density is the real indicator of how difficult it will be to get this under control in an area. Which is why it’s hilarious to see people claiming Texas isn’t that bad right now because their death rate is comparable to NY - by raw numbers, sure, but nowhere in Texas is anywhere near as densely populated as NYC. When you consider the insane population density of NYC, the massive number of people moving in and out of the city, and how bad things were here right when corona really blew up and no one really knew how to handle it... the response here has been great. The fact that NYC is now one of the safest places to be re: COVID in the country is very impressive when you consider how bad it’s getting elsewhere, in areas with far less population density.

SA1 - Hey I’m a part of that population! Haha, but you’re right it is to be expected. Director 1- I imagine he wouldn’t, I’d hope he wouldn’t. But yes that’s what I’m focused on. Probably should have been less broad with title and should have inquired why no one is attacking Cuomo for it

like

Because everything is relative and within the US NY is one of the few places that’s got this thing under semi control.

Damn this was a wholesome, understanding and resolved disagreement with an acceptance of both sides to a higher, multi-faceted truth about an idea - im 🙂 you both exist in the world

like

Is Cuomo saying anything in particular that’s triggering you

like

No but I’m certainly upset about 33,000 dead, many senior citizens that didn’t deserve their fate due to poor policy decisions by the governor who now is selling a poster touting his “incredible” response

like

New York could at least recognize disaster and take corrective action. Florida is that kid on your group project that does a terrible job and gets the whole group a bad grade.

I think NY did well

Looks like Texas, Florida, and California are still doing way better overall than NY and NJ. Come back in 2 weeks everyone?

OP do you want a cookie or something. Great. It was awful here in NYC. We don't know what the future holds. Let's move on.

Sources?

Oh, the poster.

The governor and mayor asked for the funding, the beds, the supplies and it still isn’t enough for them. It’s all about who is running the city.

2 weeks have passed. Cuomo is writing a book 🧐 NY and NJ have, clearly, done the worst. The economies and real estate markets in TX and FL are soaring while NYC/NJ are underwater with vacancies and shuttered businesses. http://ww11.doh.state.fl.us/comm/_partners/covid19_report_archive/county_reports_latest.pdf Not even close who responded better.

Labor Day is coming up next week, and I'd love your thoughts on how we can recognize workers in this truly strange year. Maybe a mega thread in the Coronavirus Work-life bowl asking what it's been like to be a worker in the year 2020? Could be a cool time capsule to have people from different industries share their stories about what it's like to work through this. Any thoughts that come to mind?

Currently working at Accenture as a C (promoted Dec ‘19), but I know I ultimately want to make the jump over to Deloitte. I am on track to be promoted to M in the 2021 promo cycle and I know Deloitte would likely knock me down one level either way. Due to COVID-19, it seems like it doesn’t make sense to jump ship for at least another year while things get back to normal. Any thoughts on if it’s better to wait it out and leave after making M (but how long after?) or try to leave earlier? TIA

Genuine question as I wanted to know is it strange for someone to want to switch to advisory from tax. Would it be difficult for someone to transition from that position? Gained the COVID -19 (really only 10 pounds) but need to lose between 15-25. Been counting calories and mild exercise but we are interested in trying fasting but know nothing. How do you do IF right? When do you eat vs fast and what are the time frames? Do you eat only certain things on some fasts? Help appreciated

Just need to vent: my friend refuses to bring up the topic of covid and how it will likely effect her wedding. She’s just moving forward like we aren’t in a pandemic and it’s becoming exhausting trying to be supportive and excited for her when it feels like she’s living in a fantasy world. She just had us purchase bridesmaids dresses and I can’t help but feel like it was a complete waste of a few hundred dollars. I feel bad for having these thoughts but I’m over it.

HELP! Roommate is being insistent on not allowing either of us to go out due to covid (except for groceries). We live in Chicago, and phase 4 is starting in a few wks meaning most places will re-open with limited capacity. I’m not trying to go crazy here and hit up every club/restaurant/public place. But I’d like to enjoy a meal out or a small gathering at a friend’s place, things like that (w/ all proper precautions in place) but roommate is not cool with it -how to approach?
