Why is US allowing tourists from certain countries like India (with sky high Covid cases) but not others with very few Covid cases (like Germany)?

This. Same thing happens with Americans in Europe. I just came back from visiting my parents in Europe and everything is pretty much back to normal...my college friends going on, gatherings with no masks, etc...

Also, when it comes to travel restrictions you have to keep in mind the there isn’t really a practical way to discriminate between Schengen area countries. So we can’t really just look at Germany and allow travel without allowing travel from all Schengen countries.

like

Not all EU countries are Schengen countries.

It’s not about case numbers, it’s about cases per capita. India has a BILLION people, keep that in mind.

likefunny

India and other places like Brazil and Mexico still have extremely high cases per capita, much greater than almost all schengen countries. They also have extremely low testing numbers so that also needs to be taken into account. It all comes down to pure politics.

Do people actually want to come here? If I was a tourist I’d avoid America for the foreseeable future.

like

Has to do with the way EU passports work. They can move freely within and there is very little ability to track where they’ve been.

Modi and trump get along well. Merkel and trump is a different story.

US started the travel ban for Schengen area when European countries were having a lot of cases (Italy, Spain, France). When it came to an expiration end of June, the European countries were doing much better (the US was/is NOT!) and had just decided on a travel ban for people from the US as well. So Trump renewed it - these things are generally bilateral... so I guess it will stay like this until the US gets its shit together!

No but i think foreigners working/living in the US would love to go home for a bit (which they technically can if they have the nationality) and then come back (which they can’t because of the travel ban). I know that’s a frustration shared across many of us Europeans working here...

I started my first job out of college as an Engineer recently. I moved to CT and wow is it expensive here. My goal was to move down south in 2ish years but with Covid19 I figured to move earlier if the right job pops up. Only thing that is keeping me back is that my manager is awesome and a great mentor. I know that is difficult to come by in the engineering world... how long should I stay? Any advice for someone in their early career stages?

Can we get these people to waive their right to priority COVID treatment? If they’re actively going out saying give me covid or freedom they obviously care less about covid than those staying safe

I’ve been fully vaccinated since early this year (Pfizer), and tested positive for Covid-19 three days ago. I’m laid up in bed feeling terrible and quarantined so that my wife (who tested negative) and two kids don’t catch it from me. Remember: be safe. Don’t relax yet. The vaccines are wonderful, but we can still get it and pass it on.

Recently ended a 3+ yr relationship (were both mid 20s and living together for just under 2 years) bc of him buying an engagement ring yet not proposing and waffling about our future. After 2 weeks I brought up that there’s a lot of good in us that maybe worth trying to work on (counseling etc). He wants space first and asked me to not wait for him as he sorts out his emotions and “tries to be happy again” (COVID depression and 100hr work weeks). Then he’ll decide if he wants to try again

Anyone changing your family plan due to covid? We were planning to go for baby three this fall but with corona I am worried both economically (do we want to sign on for another kid to support for 18 years) plus being pregnant and having a newborn in a pandemic. Are you changing your thinking/plans because of this or just doing what you’d always planned to do?

Question: can an employer legally withhold your personal possessions after you leave the firm? I left my old firm recently and they were not happy about me joining another consultancy. They are withholding any belongings that I left in the office and have ignored my emails asking to arrange a pick up or delivery of my personal items. I understand the covid19 environment impacts the situation, but anything I can do to get my stuff back? Any help would be appreciated.

Junior associate here. For my own reasons, I’ve decided that I am NOT getting the COVID vaccine. Currently, everyone in my office openly discuss how excited they are about getting the vaccine and have scheduled their appointments. Well, today a paralegal point blank asked me when my appointment was scheduled for the shot. I politely explained I am holding off for a while. Needless to say, there was dead air and it was awkward. For those of you who are not getting the vaccine, what do you say?

I have always dreamt of living abroad. A few years in Europe, and then APAC. Transfer plans fell through with covid, and I’m pretty sure they will be delayed due to Delta. Turning 25 this month and feel like that dream is getting farther away. I’ve always been ambitious, but as I’m getting older I’ve realized traveling and exploring other cultures is what truly makes me happy and that’s what I want to use my career in tech to fund. I know this is a first world problem, but has anyone done this?

So I had a some friends who went to Cabo, and when they returned they all(7) took the covid test and came back positive. 5 days later, no one was showing any symptoms so they all went to another clinic and they took the test and they all tested negative. Don’t get me wrong, I wear a mask and take precautions, but when you hear stories like this, you wonder how much of these reported numbers are manipulated or incorrect.

So I’m a Covid bride and decided to postpone my grand wedding to 2021 (or even later). We’re planning a mini ceremony in the woods instead set for this October. I just ordered this beautiful dress. However I’m not sure how to accessorize it. I want a pop of color but figured I could incorporate that with my bridal bouquet. Any thoughts on how to make this dress and look stand out?

Been with my s/o for 13 years. We have had a lot of ups and downs. She had a really rough upbringing which caused severe anxiety and depression. I tried splitting up but I could sense she was unraveling and we'd always end up back together. Eventually I felt so stuck/got so sick of it that I went to grad school out of state (wasn't the right move i know but I couldn't get through to her that it was taking a toll). Long distance sucked, and her depression turned into suicidal behavior. (Cont).
