If you think there should be one, feel free to try and start one.
Mixture of people treating PA as a stepping stone and not planning on staying long-term, the lifers who benefit from the status quo, and those in the middle who are too afraid to rock the boat.
Also doesn't help the industry focuses on cultivating a steady stream of new hires bearing in mind a certain level of attrition is expected.

Do your research. Not a good idea.
Idk obviously outside perspective but is there a better way to handle needing to reduce your workforce? At least they were transparent and honest about it
No, there’s not a much better way to do it, in my opinion. Easy to complain because layoff suck (and they do, and it’s really crappy for people getting fired out of nowhere) but it’s not like you can lay off a percent of your workforce and everyone is going to walk away happy.
I truly believe KPMG handled this communication the best way possible. Everyone knew by 3PM and they even sent an email afterward letting us know the process had ended.
Yeah I don’t mean to be an ass kiss but that was the best way possible. They sunk two hours of productivity across the firm but they ripped that bandaid off. The all clear email at the end was much appreciated. Given the WFH dynamic, that was probably the least painful way.
How did it happen?
Yeah take it from someone at one of those “we are laying people off” firms who are just firing people without transparency, I think you all did it better.
How would you have handled it?
Ok KPMG OP... so your proposal was doing the same thing they just did, but immediately at the start of a pandemic when most people were dealing with even understanding what is going on with COVID? That doesn’t sound better at all.
This layoff is based on business capacity (obviously, it’s a layoff) and merit. Layoffs suck and there is never a good time to do them, but there is a worse time than now, taking everyone across the firm into consideration.
Here we go again.....
