Google has the luxury of being particular with how they recruit. I’ve made it to on-site interviews twice. Once I failed - totally overthought the technical interview and the second time it was for a position I was less excited about and I took a position with a smaller company that was more aligned with what I wanted to do. If you can establish a good rapport with the recruiters, you’ll get interview requests pretty easily - I’ve declined interviews for positions where I don’t want to be geographically.
Google doesn’t do much fun stuff anymore. Good pay and benefits can be had in a lot of places. I think it is an amazing place for young people who haven’t seen much yet but otherwise I believe it’s overhyped. I know several people who didn’t accept the offer however generous. As to why it’s so hard to get in - they get an inordinate number of applications so no wonder the initial pool of applicants is wider. Regardless - congrats and enjoy!!
Got a call from recruiter, interviewed, got an offer, declined (Strategy lead). I thought it was an easy exit for us...
Curious about this too
Tons of competition and high hiring bar. They want to avoid false positives as much as possible so inevitably there will be more instances of false negatives.
I feel like BCG -> is a very welll-trodden path. The real question is whether you will be able to advance vs just jump around laterally
This is reassuring to know that is indeed hard. Had interviews but they didn’t make an offer to me in time (I had a competing job offer).
