As a person who has this type of job, trying to make changes to processes that either no longer makes sense or have significant areas for improvement. You’ll always find somebody who doesn’t want to change.
However, the person that you’re speaking of usually reports to somebody above them. Change needs to happen sometimes from the top down or sometimes from the bottom and top meeting in the middle. If this 25 year person does not want to change the last step, I would take is going to their direct manager or Director to tell them of the significant roadblocks you experience with this person. If nothing changes that it’s time to go.
Employees feel set up for failure for various reasons. I don’t think the business deliberately sets people up to fail, it’s usually a combination of work culture, people and processes.
For example, I was hired on to help the department address a specific new initiative that requires a lot of change in existing processes. However, I have a senior colleague on the team that has been with the company for 25+ years and is very reluctant to change. Questioning existing processes and proposing new/efficient ways of doing things is met with significant reluctance. In this situation, I’d say I was set up for failure. Having to work on a project that requires change for success but facing significant resistance from senior colleagues that are emotionally attached to the old ways of doing things.
I’m currently experiencing this. I have a hard time working w people who have been w the same company for nearly 2 decades. They end up being very problematic.
Same.
Sometimes it’s trauma.
Sometimes it’s a deep seated lack of self awareness.
Sorry you’re going through this, I hate it too 🙈
