Will be putting my notice tomorrow to jump to another big 4. Background check is not complete yet, do I need to check in with new firm to make sure everything is good on their end before I give notice

Yep, I’d 100% be certain about the BG check before putting any notice in (especially if you have some blemishes or pending blemishes). I wouldn’t reach out to the B4 company. I’d reach out to the vendor themselves to see what they found and if it’s been completed. If completed and been a week or more since completion, I’d say you’re fine.

They said they will contact my current employer 2 weeks before my start date so my background check likely will not be done until then. I don’t anticipate any blemishes on my check

The bg check company will send you a form where you can explain any blemishes before they submit it to the prospective employer... I went through this personally and was still hired. But you probably won’t hear from either if they have nothing of concern

like

You are good unless you have something to hide like a felony or something. Just know they won't let you finish your 2 weeks.

Hey it’ll be a free 2 weeks extra vacation. I’ve heard the same about taking the laptop. How does that time get recorded then? Lol

funny

If you put in your notice tomorrow to go to another big 4 you better be prepared to hand over your laptop then and there and be walked out the door. Wait until you have the paperwork done and a start date if you can.

I did most of the paperwork already and have a start date. Just waiting for the background check

Could someone who went through a similar process explain..Might be dealing with a similar situation in a couple weeks (hopefully). When you get an offer from another firm, how long would it take to get the BG check done? And how much time is it generally before the start date. I just want to still be able to give a notice that’s two weeks before my new start date even if I'm let go the day I give my notice

My BG check was done in 2 days. I came from industry. And doubtful you’ll be let go when you give notice, they’d owe you unemployment potentially. They just let you ride out the 2 weeks at home

like

Yup I did that. They even told me to go ahead and resign from my former employer. 😅

Background check timing can vary widely, usually caused by the county checks that can literally be done using paper files depending upon how well funded the county is. If you have no concerns of what will come up, you should be just fine, but don't think of a 7 year history only or limit any possibilities.

Am literally in this same situation going to industry. They want me to start right after the holidays and the partner I work with will be out of town next week so can’t delay it at all. Fingers crossed there are no delays 🤞🏼

PWC 2: Why would they choose to pay you your salary for two weeks rather than a small percentage of your salary as unemployment for the same two weeks?

I guess I meant "why would they prefer..." bc obviously sometimes they do.

EY3 PWC2 never said paid vacation. Just vacation

Seems like a lot of questions on partner comp and net worth. Here is the rule of thumb: 1) Big 4 partners make $600K to $1.5m based on seniority and practice. 2) MBB partners make $1m -3m based on seniority Typically your expenses are between $100-300k. Add Taxes to it, that’s the amount you add every year. About 6-10% return yearly on the savings. So net worth of partners are probably between $3m to $20m depending on which company and seniority, investment profile, etc. Where am I wrong?
